In the new sidebar under 'this URL' we can select 'annotations'.
In the demo video it shows the annotations with wordWrapping so that you can
see your entire annotation however in my sidebar I see only one line per
annotation.(Firefox and IE) Is there any way to get it to wordWrap?

Great! Maybe an option to permanently keep wordWrapping?
The reason being that it's easy to quickly see the highlights by and jumping to them by scrolling
on the screen. The beauty of having the annotations in one place is that we can quickly read all of the highlights THEN jump to them if we need to. I know we can extract highlights with the button which is handy but it would be nice not to have to do that on every bookmark we visit. Cool, rock on diigo!

How's it coming with this?
Since you've already got the code, you may also want to consider implementing an AJAX fold-down like you are already using in the expand/collapse annotations in the bookmarks page.(except use
a tiny "+" for expand). This way people like me who like a quick overview of all highlights
can 'expand all' and skim through them. If a person just wanted to use the sidebar to jump
to an annotation they could simply click on it as you have now. (or click the individual "+" to expand
it.

Hi guys, any progress on this?
I think this is fairly easy to do and would be quite useful.
I'm also a programmer so if you want some help or want me to

This is just a small notice for the developers to keep in mind that the more efficient they allow us to become by using this service, the more of our feature requests and adjustment wishes may seem very small and only save a second, for example. However, this is a sign of success, and as the information overload increases, seconds count more and more. Any improvement is a step forward.

Thanks for a fantastic tool, and keep up the good work :-)

(I would gladly pay for it, btw, for example as a business service)

Thanks. We are glad to see more and more people like diigo and ready to do any small improvement. However, the hard problem we faced is that some people think A is efficient, while some people prefer B. If we meet all requirements, the increased complexity is a big obstacle to new users. Do we need a vote function for feature request in the forum?

Share-to-group tick mark moves away while loading recommended tags, so I keep missing it

While trying to save as much time (also seconds) as possible, I am often in the following situation:

I only need to click on the "Share to Group" tick mark, so that the last group I posted to is selected, then hit the save button. However, very often - just when I am about to tick it, the "Recommended bookmarks" is finished loading, and pushes the tick mark down so I miss it and have to click again.

Could this be adjusted so that it does not move? For example by giving the Recommended tags a bit bigger but fixed area, with a potential scroll bar if too many tags appear? (I think it should be placed where it is, right under where we type the tags, but with some kind of fixed space.)

I have been using this bookmarking service for the past week, recommending it to friends and people at work and have come across some important criticisms. Some of these you may already be addressing.

I say this because I find this to be one of the most well engineered web apps I have seen....ever. It is extraordinarily thorough and well integrated into the older and competing technology that it seeks to replace. The usability is the issue.
Here are my criticisms (mostly visual)

-custom color scheme - I think that you can add something as simple as the last.fm 'paint it black button' or something as thorough as the netvibes interface to allow a user to feel at home in your space without affecting your branding. The web 2.0 blue is old. Your...pretty much web 3.0 anyway so have some 3.0 visual standards (whatever the hell that means)

-sorting - the ability to control how bookmarks are ordered (ie not by date). Ideally one could drag them up and down or place them in tabs via a drag.

-date - the exact hours ago that I bookmarked a site is extraordinarily irrelevant 99% of the time. Please allow the removal of this information.

-pictures- a little screen shot of the web page next to the bookmark as a custom option. A bit like twine, but you can do better.

-toolbar- add multiple pages of bookmarks. I don't want to go back to diigo to go to older bookmarks.

-ability to send bookmarks w/o a firefox plugin. (again like twine) but please not like twine. It will have to happen for you to tap into that user base. Which may be small (people who use IE or Safari etc but try out beta web bookmarking apps) hmm…It will have to be made at some point.

Please make this or something like this a sticky in your forums to assist in the development of your software.

I apologize for not being entirely clear

the tabs-
much like how you can create folders in Firefox in your bookmarks toolbar. It is mostly a use ability and convenience concern. Just another means of organizing bookmarks quickly and easily. I realize that this can already be done through groups but the physicality of dragging things to a folder for organization is very standardized and intuitive. It feels quicker than having to manually label everything Basically a drag to an auto group space could potentially be created in an ajax script.
-How I envision this is a section to the right of the bookmarks where one could drag a bookmark into a folder then access that folder via a drop down tab

sticky- in a message board, is a topic that is locked at the top, so that there aren't lots of separate topics about basically the same thing.

in the diigo sidebar-
-at the bottom have 'page 2' , 'next page'
-and the option to eliminate the viewing of the date. I realize the date is important for organization but I already know bookmarks are sorted by date. When i am searching for a bookmark the time i bookmarked it is rarely of any use, so why do i need to see it…

bookmarklet-
i was unaware of this, thanks!

sorting-
a manual sort. move a bookmark one up or down with a little button. These applications are commonly used to show clients website examples. So usually we will make a page, group or account for them to brows competitive or conceptually similar pages. It is helpful to be able to manually reorder them.

pictures-
yea kinda unnecessary and i see the criticism that its far too bandwidth heavy and problematic.

Time for localization and other suggestions

Congratulations! the new Diigo is becoming the standard in social bookmarking!

That said, there is still some features i miss (trying to be always :) useful) , the first is the localization of Diigo in many languages. I hope this is becoming a priority after this launch. I'm sure many users, like me, can help in that work -personally in spanish-. Localization should not mean the interface localization only, but a whole multilanguage Diigo system that include, for example, the possibility (oh please!) of having my tags translated so 'español' and 'spanish' can be intrepreted as the same tag by the system (if i choose that).

This translated_tags feature it's very important, localization should help people - and info- meet even while they're using different mature/main languages.

And some other suggestions:
- Tags grouping.
- Safari toolbar.
- 'Show notes' option in linkrolls (not confuse with the current 'show annotated only')
- Unread = still not bookmarked
- Wordpress plugin: to use my diigo tags to tag my posts and to quickly add an annotated bookmark to them.

About the profile page:
- Change the name of 'favorite sites' box in my profile, did I marked as my favorites? No. So use 'top sites' instead.
- The same for 'favorite lists', those should be (they are) 'My lists'.
- 'Profiles elsewhere' names my Bitacoras.com profile as 'My others'.

Home Page:
I have to say that home page is a bit booring. Please don't use anymore, i think i said this before, that good looking, beauty, happy... people photos. Diigo homapge seems that old/empty corporate webpage looking for creepy clients. Put top/fresh sites at the top of the page, beside the group box and tag communities, wich reinforce the social and unique bookmarking features. After that: top users and hot tags. Move that introduction statements to the signup page and concentrate in getting an interesting home page, a place to have as a usual reference for everone to see what's going on the web an on this community.

And some great surprises already available:
- The 'top contributors' box in every tag page is a great way to meet people!
- 'Only these tags' option in 'Daily blog post', blogging from Diigo is now a fast and effective way.

- 'Copy highlight' option in the automatic menu that appears when the mouse is over a highlight.
- 'My groups' tab in the new sidebar.

I'd like:

Unread:
- Option to have other bookmarks default to public, but unread ones default to private.
- Drop down list of unread items direct from the toolbar.
- A "mark read" button to easily change it, and take it off the unread list.

Sidebar:
- Hyperlinks for the most commonly searched, or most recently searched tags below the searchbox.

Favorites:
- The ones I click on the most. Or an option to sort the list by clicks

Cool Extras:
- track changes. Since you are already letting me add notes and cache pages, I'd like to be able to choose to be updated if the page changes, or if my highlights change. (kinda like a builting changenotes.com, before it broke).
-screenshots would be nice, if used sparingly... such as on the homepage or dashboard.

wow! very good points Soulgrinds. Specially that track changes feature, specially when thinking that while Diigo allow us to highlight a page, this highlight becomes broken when the text is changed. Maybe the already cached page is enough... but highlights are not shown is those chached versions.

The 'Drop down list of unread items direct from the toolbar' or throught any other quick way, is also a nice one.

By the way, I'd like to be able to add more tags to this conversation after its creation.

Mmm.. I think the sidebar should allow some configuration in the options extension, to hide or show the elements i'm interested in, like groups, lists, unread bookmarks, follow a tag, etc. like in the toolbar.

One more: some visual message should inform in cached pages that "You're seeing a cached page" with a link to see the current version.

One more and i think this can be considered as a bug: Bookmark time should not change when a new highlight is done. Maybe every highlight should have also its own time stamp.

I also have noticed what may become a big problem for me. Not more than one week ago I annotated a page. The author moved the page and I get a 'page not found' error. I go to the diigo cached version (good) but NONE of my highlights are there. Of course I can find which annotations that I made previously and manually re-annotate the new page then manually go into my bookmarks and delete the old bookmarked page. If this happens very often it can become too time consuming.
Is there a faster way that already exists? Can you add this as a feature? (perhaps by simply adding a column to the table in the user's database that links to the cached page table? Then run a query. Obviously you guys know what you're doing)

This is already available. Diigo >> Unread. clicking any item in there will automatically remove it from "unread"

quite a few requests on adding screencast, though I remain unconvinced that it is really beneficial since it increases page size , yet is still unreadable. Note we have "preview" feature. maybe we can add that the dashboard also.

This is an intentional design. Otherwise, if you highlight an old bookmark, you won't see it in "My Bookmarks", and you may wonder "did I do the highlight?"

I completely agree here. They aren't my favorites, and I'm not comfortable displaying them labeled as such.

I for one am totally against screenshots--they'll make pages load slower and take up screen space, making pages feel cluttered. If you can't tell what a page is by your tags and annotations, then you really need to tag and annotate better, IMHO.

I also agree about the favorites. Some of mine are kinda weird.. because there are several small, different sites hosted on the same service... which means diigo thinks the main service is my favorite. Actually I've never even looked at the main site.
On the other hand, some are pretty good.. so maybe the feature has some merit... but Top Sites might be more apt.

I don't use groups, but having them as a tab on the sidebar seems like a logical idea.

Screenshots aren't a major feature i'm dying for (much rather have changenotes, remembered searches, searches, unread etc.. direct on the toolbar).

However I can't help but notice that sites like Magnolia get far more hype and attention than ones like diigo. In terms of usability and features I'd say diigo was way ahead.. but it can't be denied that, at least at first glance, magnolia looks a lot more colorful and interesting.
I think a lot of people who use these kind of sites are people like web designers.. and they are naturally drawn to more graphical interfaces.

I just wonder if diigo might get more hype, and therefore have more "diigo this page" icons added to pages, if it had screenshots. (like in the favorites list).

Maybe make it an optional feature when setting up public lists (kinda like public galleries) or make it optional for some groups?
As I say, its not hugely important to me.. i just think it might help diigo's profile.

I also don't believe we need screenshots. There are plenty of other ways that you can do screenshots, it
would be a lot of work to program/maintain, and a resource hog on diigo's servers.
As it is now you can annotate text and highlight images.
I also wouldn't worry about getting hype or making it more colorful in order to attract people.
Just keep the focus on the functionality and speed there. People will find diigo if it
serves them.

FR: Take plurals into account when tagging/searching tags

I was just searching for a site that I was pretty sure I'd tagged, a photography site. But I searched for "photo" and "image" and it didn't come up. Finally I found it and discovered I'd tagged it with "photos" and "images".

It'd be really nice if diigo could smartly handle plurals in tags. Looking at my tag list I've already got lots of duplicate tags book/books, photo/photos, snippet/snippets.

I do my best to avoid them, but it often depends on the context of the page. A directory of code snippets is much more likely to get tagged "snippets", whereas if i find a page with a single cool snippet its much more likely to get tagged "snippet". Same goes for everything else.

I don't mind, too much, having the separate tags, though it does make it hard to navigate by tag cloud, etc.. but it'd be nice if at least the search was able to handle them and show both.

BTW, When you filter bookmarks by tags, the auto suggestion feature in my bookmark page can help you choose the right tags.

I miss the "capture search items" feature

So, It's the only button I need in the Diigo toolbar !! Very convenient.
I can't find the equivalent feature in v3.1.3 tool bar.

we are no longer taking tags from the search box. It is very easy to get tags you do not intend.

the one button solution that does everything is hard for lots of beginners to figure out.

If you do not like to keep all the buttons on the toolbar, note you can still use the right-click menu to do pretty everything.

But why not an optional switch to allow that wonderful smart feature alive instead of felly removing it.

I see.
It took long time for myself happen to find this feature super convenient.

I can simply keep older Diigo tool bar on my IE, good for researching. And V3 on my Firefox, nice for viewing with the sidebar.

By the way, so I found V3 tool bar chooses a small stickynotes font size, too small for Chinese characters.

V3.1.4 has a sub-set of the old "capture search items" feature that can Bookmark the recent web page
with pre-defined tags.

1. Diigo toolbar options > keyboard tab > check "Quick Bookmark (one-click)" and define a hot key
// Hotkey only? I can't find the One-click button
3. Bookmark icon pull down triangle > one click save options > default tags

Press the hot key bookmarks the recent web page *with that default tags*. Good.

Little tiny drawbacks
This hot key does not highlight marked area at the same time as the old "capture search items" does.
Default tags is deep in a long process that is not as convenient for visible edit-able as before.

I have found the highlighting and comment tools so useful, that I have now uploaded a gutenburg book onto my blog, so that I could highlight it and comment while I read, then have the collection of snips and notes at the end. Why can't diigo store things separately for files on a hard drive, granted that they are still being viewed in the browser?

second feature:
It wasn't until after I'd been using diigo for a while that I noticed the option to have bookmarks put onto my bookmarks toolbar or menu. This option should have a "make universal" option. I will not be visiting each page I've tagged and putting them into my bookmarks menu individually.

I love diigo, btw, so thanks. :)

To explain, on the second page of the options menu for the diigo toolbar (on Mac), at the bottom, one has the option to add bookmarks to the "local 'bookmarks' folder of your browser". Now that I've made this selection, I have some, not all, bookmarks in there, with tags all pell-mell.

Yes, support for local files would be great! All sorts of local files can be viewed in a browser, and it would be so great to tag, highlight, etc. them!

I love diigo! I tested a lot of bookmark services, but now I'm sure that diigo is by far the best (just good enough for me:-)). But maybe it is not perfect (not yet):-)
I would like to suggest some additional features:
-I would like to have subgroups in some groups. That would be cool!
-On the "View Groups" site I see no possibility to share some bookmarks with other groups, too. This feature is only available on the "My Diigo" site, when "My Bookmarks" are shown?
-I would like to have the possibility to share a bookmark immediately at creation-time with more than one group.

I think it would be great if you can fix these:

1. Configure my showing items per page in ma setting. (Forever)
2. Delete or modify my shared and posted bookmark.
3. Contact my member in da list. ( entertaining during researching )
4. Can Highlight, Bookmark & add sticky note at the same time with ma Right click in any pages.
5. Sign-In directly without second click of the sign-in button in the web page again. ( This can confuse many people, they start to create their account again and again).
6. Screen Resolution for options. (800x600 is not gonna see the options page correctly)

7. This is major problem that can cause to uninstall Diigo Toolbar. For example, if i don like some site, i can use Diigo highlight or comment,etc. on that page to make it look messy, and other people can see it on that page if they installed Diigo toolbar on their PC. Therefore, it can makes them feel strange and they may try remove Diigo tool bar from their PC. Not only this, while everyone can put on every page, the page owner may not feel good too.

OK That's wat i got and I will tell you more.

I have experienced a new difficulty with the toolbar for firefox. After selecting my options, the toolbar changes accordingly, then after a couple of hours or so changes back to the default by itself. When I click options again to reselect my preferences, they are already selected so I just click 'ok' and the toolbar returns to the preferences that I selected. Not sure if this is due to updates on the toolbar or if it is something else.

I downloaded the toolbar that was sent to me, and it works! So far no problems at all. I love it!!!

Maggie wanted me to share how I found out about the diigo service. Actually I wasnt really familiar with bookmarking services till I ran into the add-on for delicious. After a short time of using delicious, and not being able to connect to my bookmarks very often, I decided to look for something else. I did contact delicious about the problem but received an automated response and nothing that would address the real issue. So I did give them a chance before looking elsewhere. I had no idea that there were other bookmarking services like delicious out there, but I had to find something. So I looked thru a long list of downloadables and save to your computer bookmarking type of things but it wasnt what I was looking for. I wanted something that was internet based so that I can have access to my favorite links from anywhere since I do travel occasionally. When I read the description of diigo I figured I had to try it. It had everything I was looking for and more (the sticky note things and groups and such). I found the service to be very easy to use, even the video is very explanatory. Another thing that I like is the personal assistance. I know its a lot of work for ya'll but it really does make a big difference. You guys should really be awarded for all this work. With this type of program and services that you provide I'm sure that in no time use of the service will grow to astronomical levels. I have already passed on the information about your bookmarking service to everyone I know. I'm sure my friends will do the same.

I wish you all the good and all the luck with your efforts. If there is anything else I can help with I would love to have the chance.

I've just started using diigo and I know it's still in its beta version, but it seems like there are a lot of bugs to work out with the tagging system and just some general usability issues that could be improved. I think the features diigo offers beat the pants off of other social bookmarking tools, but I hope they can improve some of these basic problems that are driving me nuts: (or maybe some of them are easily fixable just by changing some preference and I just don't know what I'm doing?)

Currently there is a single screen for editing your tags - next to "My tags" there is a "Edit" link - http://www.diigo.com/cloud/username -- > so you don't like this?

the tag "Links" is being used in a special way in Diigo - we'll discuss more to see if allowing editing on this particular tag could lead to some other complication.

Meanwhile, please see the middle section "Add to Links/Bookmarks Toolbar" in http://www.diigo.com/help/bookmark/2 (although it's in the process of being updated to reflect the latest changes.) This allows you to have super quick access to frequently used bookmarks in any link folder that you specify. I am so customized to having these link folders - it's one of my favorite features that I use daily :-)
