Diigo Toolbar points to wrong url

I installed the new Diigo Toolbar 3.1.5.4 and now the diigo toolbar points to http://secure.diigo.cn/sign-in.
I had the same problem with the last Version.
I found the error in the file: diigo.urls.js in the first lines:

(function(){var A=window.diigo;A.urls={matrix:{cn:{www:"http://www.diigo.cn",group:"http://group.diigo.cn",dms:"http://message.diigo.cn",toolbarServer:"http://www.diigo.cn",signIn:"http://secure.diigo.cn/sign-in",signOut:"http://www.diigo.cn/sign-out",resources:"http://resources.diigo.cn",cookieDomain:".diigo.cn"},

I changed all diigo.cn into diigo.com and everything works now.

Hi, please check the value for extensions.diigotb.server in about:config. I think you have the value "cn" which is supposed to be "www".
Changing the value to "www" should solve the wrong server problems and you don't need to change the source code.

Several other users have the wrong server setting too. I am very curious about how you got the wrong setting. Did you somehow change the server preference?

Hi,
thank you. The wrong value was the problem! But i didn´t change the server preference.
This was the first time that i opened the about:config. So maybe this is a problem with the firefox 3 on OSX?

Diigo API

Is Diigo planning to release a public API (e.g., see del.icio.us's APIs at http://del.icio.us/help/api/ and http://del.icio.us/help/json/) and if so, when is the expected release of this API?

yes, codes are being written. However, we need to carefully review them before releasing. We have many very urgent issues to deal with first.

Although no definite time line, it's coming... So stay tuned.. We will make an announcement when it's ready.

Thanks, Maggie! I really like this new version of Diigo, but I'm having a hard time convincing my fellow developers to switch given they can't access it via an API. Good to know one is in the works.

YES, an API would be great!
Diigi is the best tool to organize my online reseach, but integration is missing (i would like to see it integrated with "web note happy").

Hi,

I'm now challenging to use the Diigo API. But, I can't post bookmarks. First time, the API response was 200. But it is not bookmarked. And now API response is 400. I couldn't find any difference.

Can you show us tiny sample(Any language/No Error Handling) ?

BTW,
1) There may be some delay in cached pages.
2) Some pages are not cached, such us PDF pages, Https pages.

problem with Internet Explorer version of Diigo

I love the Diigo tool for Firefox but the latest version for IE7 is a problem because it takes forever to close IE7 when the Diigo toolbar is displayed. The Diigolet works fine. I'm using WinXP. Any suggestions?

Sorry, the new toolbar is not available yet, due to some compatible problems with Windows XP and Vista. However, we finally solved it. It will be available later.

You can use diigolet ( http://www.diigo.com/tools/diigolet ) first.

The toolbar installs, but no window pops when I press 'Bookmark'.

And Diigolet won't drag-n-drop to IE7 toolbars either :(

FeedDemon & Diigo

If any Diigo users are also users of FeedDemon (RSS reader for Windows) you might be interested in adding Diigo search directly to FeedDemon. you can do this by:

1. Browsing to C:\Program Files\FeedDemon\Data\search
2. Copy an exisitng file, and rename it to "Diigo.fdsrch2"
3. Open the file in Notepad and replace the contents of the file with the following.

View : http://screencast.com/t/ZkPkw3tm3SU

You will now have access to the Diigo full text search engine from within FeedDemon. I may see if I can combine other search features as well.

PS. I wanted to copy the code here directly, but the forum stops it from showing, anyway to include the code directly in the post?

I have not tried yet. I understand that there may be an API, or a standard web based URL interface for saving a a bookmark soon, which will make this a bit easier. I don't think it can be done with the existing tools. Diigo folks? FeedDemon has an integration feature that uses a URL based method to add a bookmark to Diigo. Here is an example of hat FeedDemon uses for Del.icio.us looks like, can we do this for Diigo?

Thanks, but I think this URL is for search, what I am looking for is to actually post a new bookmark to Diigo Basically in FeedDemon you can have an article selected, FeedDemon will grab the title and url, and pass it to the bookmarking service.

Diigo and Habari integration

However, when I try to configure my Habari blog for 'Send to blog' from Diigo (using the same settings I use to successfully publish from Google Docs), the blog verification fails with

'Your blog settings cannot be verified. Please check'

I would like to investigate further but is there a more detailed error message available ?

I think I've helped Andy C resolve this. Habari doesn't by default have the MetaWeblog API active, it requires activating a plugin. I've tested this with another of my own Habari installs, and it seems to have configured and accepted the verification.

Posting worked fine, including picking up the tags from the blog.

Sorted. I can't believe I didn't actually check the 'MetaWeblog' plgugin was activated .

Tested now and working fine. Neat feature that Diigo can pickup tags and post a draft !

I have a Diigo bookmarked web page. It's like a real difficult book I am studying hard everyday and many highlights and annotations I have made on it already. Thank Diigo, you have changed the way people study.

But, this morning I suddenly found that I can't go on working on this web page any further.
Diigo error messages are
1. "This page cannot be highlighted" , I can't do any highlight on it. Existing highlights and sticky notes are still in the sidebar.
2. "Cannot find this highlight on this page. The page must have changed since you highlighted it.". I can't click sidebar items to jump to the position of them. No highlights shown on the Web page at where they should be.

Is it a V3.1.4 bug? V3.1.4 updated yesterday.

I only found the problem happens on this specific web page so far.
This web page is not a normal page itself.The steps I created it were :
1. eMail a ~.DOC article file to my gmail account.
2. on my gmail, click 'View as HTML' on the attached article.
3. Now we have made the article a Web page with URL that can be Diigo'ed. This is what I want.
4. Start working on that Diigo'ed article happily.

Oh, Since Gmail contains many frames, it's hard to highlight it. BTW, email is very private content, so we don't encourage highlight emails.

An easier way to do what you are doing would be to do so in Google docs, which will let you view .doc files in html, and publish them to a static file which diigo shouldn't have such a problem with.

Annotations disappearing?

Has anyone else had their annotations disappear in Firefox? I've been looking at some links with a coworker and she first had them disappear entirely when she was viewing her bookmarks from her diigo page, then had them appear in IE but not in Firefox...

We'd like to do a "profile" on how great diigo can be for the faculty & students at our school, but we don't want to risk giving them inconsistent information if something behaves differently depending on the browser (or browser version) they're using.

She's got the latest version of the toolbar installed on both browsers and both of the browsers are up to date... ????

I have been putting together some notes on the Firefox toolbar. I did have a problem in Firefox, where anything I would highlight or sticky note would not "stick" with Firefox. It worked fine in IE on the same machine. The whole page comments were working fine. I was able to resolve the issue by deleting my Firefox profile and reinstalling the toolbar. Kind of drastic, but I could not get it fixed any other way.

I will also add though that the Add Inline Comment feature of a highlight does not work for me in Firefox. It only gives me the option to create a sticky note, and those cannot be made public. I can see other users inline notes ,but cannot add one of my own.

Hi Barney,
1) Could you see annotations in “My bookmark" page with FF?
2) If you can see them in "My bookmark", but they didn't show up in the original page. Could you check Diigo toolbar ===>Highlight drop down Menu ===> whether "Dont' show highlight" option are checked.

For Diigo intro, our version of V3 video is tightly compacted - touches upon a lot of key features and main value propositions - all in less than 4 minutes. On the other hand, Emily's video has a very nice "why social bookmarking" component - which is great intro for "beginners". she has also explained quite a bit of the "Friends" / Sending / Profile & privacy features. Both are great companions for a better understanding of what Diigo is all about.

T-shirt - good idea. How about if we start a T-shirt design contest? Any suggestions on how to run / widely spread the words about it?

I actually feel the same way, Hexy, but I was doing this for a school assignment and needed to cover a lot of ground for a particular audience. If I had more time and all the flash capabilities in the world, there would at very least be a table of contents that would look something like this:

1. Why "social bookmarking" is useful
2. How to sign up for diigo
3. How to use diigo for basic bookmarking
4. How to use diigo to share bookmarks (the social part)
5. Review: who can use it?

If I were to separate it out into "introduction" "installation" and "demonstration", I wouldn't need to do the review pieces quite the same way, but I felt that was necessary at this length because not everyone "gets it" on the first pass. :)

I'll probably be building on this at some point and I may experiment with using brightcove and see if I can get a table of contents or other features using that as my "platform" instead of YouTube. But YouTube is pretty ubiquitous for now and easy to embed, so I used it first. Anyone on facebook can see a nicer resolution version in the diigo group... they have a better video player on facebook - it isn't larger, but it is sharper.

Hi,

Installed Diigo 3.0 toolbar in Firefox 3 Beta 5 with no problems, been working fine for over a week. Tried to install Diigo 3.0 toolbar for IE7, but IE7 will not even load after installing it and reports a problem with Diigo. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Tried searching the forum first, but search doesn't bring up relevant posts in first two pages; after that, I gave up on search as means for finding help in this forum.

Thanks for the quick reply Joel. IE 7 wouldn't even open, so I had to uninstall the Diigo Toolbar and clear out the remaining Diigo registry entries before it would open. The other toolbars I have installed in IE7 are the IE Dev Toolbar and the latest Google Toolbar; other add-ons include IE7 Pro, Fiddler 2, Send to Mindjet MM7, Send to OneNote, Adobe Reader Helper Extension, Adobe Flash and Sun Java. The only other data I can provide are these two application error event messages:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16640, faulting module DiigoToolbar.3.0.49.dll, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x0005da5b.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16640, faulting module DiigoToolbar.3.0.49.dll, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x0005288e.

I know that's not much, but that's all I got. Any further suggestions?

UPDATE! I thought the issue was solved, but it was not. Here's what's happening: upon installing Diigo 3.0 it works fine until IE 7 is closed and reopened, then I get the error message noted above. If I disable Diigo, IE will load fine, but re-enabling Diigo leads to the same issue upon the next re-opening of IE. I turned on Windows Error Reporting, which prepares 4 files for analysis of the problem: appcompat.txt, manifest.txt,iexplore.exe.hdmp and iexplore.mdmp. All but the manifest.txt file are too large for posting.

Please let me know how to proceed in resolving this problem, as I think y'all have knocked it out of the park with the 3.0 version and want to get it working in IE as well as Firefox.

Hey Joel, I'm on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (development server), but you can use XP as a proxy (at least in terms of supporting a browser extension, unless there's something really unusual about the extension.

Hi,

Though Diigo is still working on an Firefox 3 supported toolbar, here's a quick trick to the impatient that allows you to use Diigo toolbar with Firefox 3 beta.

Open new tab and type: about:config
Click on the "I will be careful, I promise" button (deselect the checkbox in here if this message is annoying)
Right click here anywhere and choose New -> Boolean
Type the name as: "extensions.checkUpdateSecurity" (without quotes of course)
In next dialog, choose false.
Now, install the toolbar and voila you'll have it!!

Firefox 3 final will be hopefully released in the first half of 2008. In the mean time, we'll keep our toolbar working with the latest beta release but we do not guarantee that it works with previous ff3 beta releases.

I'm not getting a prompt to login to Twitter with FFb4 and the latest toolbar (3.1.3). I believe there's some bug still in FF3 regarding message windows. On Mac fwiw.

Mac version is a no go, using their default mac native theme, new profile, only thing installed was diigo toolbar. I have a submit button, click, but no prompt for twitter credentials if I wasn't clear.

We have done some testing. Twitter prompts to login correctly in FF3b4/FF2 on Windows, FF2 on Mac OS X but not FF3b4/FF3b5 on Mac. I think this is a firefox bug.

Could you please tell us about the message window bug you mentioned more specifically?

To tell you the truth, I can't remember where I read about it, just had a vague recollection that there were still some UI issues with the mac. Coulda been a dream however. :-D

I just have to say THANKS! =) The new diigo v.3 is great!!
I especially love it, that the login details for additional bookmarking sites are now stored centrally online, as I now can seamlessly bookmark also in IE7, in which I had severe problems before with this! :) I also like the new icons / the possibility to work with them also in the toolbar!
I also recognized your really smooth implementation of your toolbar into Firefox / Flock, so I can rearrange all the icons and also put them into the icon pool without losing anything! :)
The new community features and the MUCH better display design does really help when searching sth. and is great fun! ^_^

and Mac OS X)? For the past couple of years I have been using PowerMarks, but, according to their website, it has come to the end of its' life and will no longer be supported.

I never come here, so apologies if this is something well known to everyone else. I've been using diigo for a year or so now (almost all from the toolbar) and its great. However I cant remember any new features or upgrades appearing. (i guess maybe movie clipping, but I never use that). I seem to vaguely remember that about 6-12 months ago when i was on these forums there was talk of toolbar beta testing... but i haven't heard of any update.

I really like diigo, but it'd be great to see a few new features.. after a few web2.0 sites failing on me (spurl, zooomr (effectively), etc..) I start to get a bit nervous when there aren't any updates for so long. Plus, a lot of other cool sites have appeared in the meantime.

Anyway, I don't want diigo to become totally bloated, but here are a few suggestions that'd really make things better for me.

General:
1-Ignore plurals. (so that if i tag things "book" and "books" I don't end up with 2 tags.
2-Sort by frequency of use (so that my daily used bookmarks "float to the top").
3-Favorites (starred items of whatever, which get priority in searches, ordering, etc..)
4-Really good antispam, cos thats whats killed a lot of other sites, but i'm sure you know that.
5-Prettier interface, more like magnolia. (diigo has way better functionality, but pretty interfaces get all the press coverage)

Toolbar:
(in general, more buttons directly on the toolbar, less options hidden in dropdowns)

1-Filters/Tags/Lists directly on the toolbar. (kinda like live bookmarks).
In particular, 1-click access to: most used, most recent, unread. Plus user definable tags/lists/groups.

2-Mark read from toolbar.
This goes with 1. If there is quick access to my unread items then there should be a quick way to mark them read. (i currently have to use the Read it later firefox extenstion, but that doesn't integrate with diigo. )

3-tag autocomplete from search box.
Ideally i could use the search box to enter tags, then press "Diigo" or "QuickD" to bookmark the page. (though this might make QuickD redundant, except as a way to mark it unread rather than read. )

4-Some of the search options direct on the toolbar.
In theory the diigo search options are great.. very customisable and for lots of sites. But i never remember to use them cos they are all hidden in a nested tree. If i could have "Web", "Bookmarks", "Blogs", "News", "more.." as direct buttons (with drop downs into the categories, and with me choosing which ones to show then i'd use it a lot more.

5-Highlighted text as bookmark comment. If I highlight some text before pressing "diigo" then put it in the comment box. Put a clear button incase i didn't mean to do it.

6-Integrated search results.
If i do a google or other search (from the diigo toolbar OR the firefox search box) that has matching pages in diigo then put a little box on the right of the google search results with links to those pages.

7-Favicons
Both on the toolbar and on the site.

8-BUT MOST IMPORTANT (almost forgot) = make middle click work right in firefox.
In all my other toolbars middle clicking opens results in a new tab (in the background for me, but that depends on the user's preferences). But on the diigo toolbar it overwrites my current tab. very annoying at times.

Additional:
Another idea I had that seemed like it'd fit great with diigo is Change Notifications.
I used to use changenotes.com for this (though only very occasionally), but recently i've wanted to monitor a few pages for changes and it seems to be so slow as to be unusable. There are a few other services out there that do it, but since diigo is already bookmarking, caching and highlighting the pages it seems like it'd be a pretty fitting addition to allow you to get updates (email, rss feed or on toobar) when the page (or only the content you have highlighted) changes.
AFAIK no other bookmarking site has change notices, but it seems like a great fit for social bookmarking. It'd only be an option, not for every bookmark/highlight.
