ok, after a dozen attempts they finally are showing in the browser.
what's the delay?

Are you talking about http://www.diigo.com/customize_search ?

I must restart browser to apply changes - but I don't use toolbar, just only popup menu and two small buttons (dragged from toolbar).

Firefox 3 RC1, current toolbar...

Customized search toolbar categories not working

I can't get the separate categories from customized search to show up on my toolbar. I go to customize search, check the box, and then click save, and yet it's still not showing up! Is there a way to fix this?

It hasnt worked since the v3 update.

I mentioned it back then, but its not a huge issue for me so I haven't chased up on it. It would be useful though, especially as about 70% of the toolbar is a waste of space at the moment.

Meanwhile, here is a work-around: finish customize and save. Then restart your FF browser. It should work then.

Also, here are some tips on how to customize the Diigo toolbar to save your desktop space

I have restarted my Firefox several times since I have saved my customizations--the buttons are still not there. :( Do I need to do something special, or what?

That doesn't work either. I don't mind waiting till it's fixed or anything, just wanted to let you know that the workarounds aren't working.

Hi!

Customize search is not working for me - when I click an empty field is displayed, so it looks like this:

Your Search Categories
EMPTY NARROW RECTANGLE
Add preset categories and engines
Add custom category

Latest version of the firefox extension, also tried with the explorer toolbar.
Also cannot reset the whole thing either.

I cannot access it using at least three different computers (two windows XP and one Mac OS X)
On win machines i tried explorer (i think v.5) with latest toolbar and latest firefox with latest toolbar (did firefox/extensions updates yesterday). On mac os x system i have an optimized build of firefox (bon echo) and latest toolbar too.
Could it be an issue with the diigo's database entry for my search settings?

I see...

I tried operate Firefox about:config(There is in "pref.js"). But, it was overwrited by server settings on restart.
It seems server data of yours ware deleted.

I can't help you any more... You need to ask to fix them to Diigo Staff...

this is a 'feature suggestion' for a great feature that already exists, with a bit of tweaking... It nicely solves a problem I've begun to have: "Have I diigo'd this already?" or "What have I diigo'd on this topic?"

I was surprised not to find 'search Diigo' as an option in the customized-search pop-up menu. So I made it, in a new category called Diigo, with these options: My Diigo full-text (basic & Advanced search), My Diigo by tags, All Diigo by tags. And best of all, it works!

now, will you promise never to go away?

I love the customized search feature, it saves time and effort in ways that surpass other search tools (and it sits neatly in a single toolbar with many other great features).

However, it baffles me how up until now, searching is always performed in the same tab/window - there is no option to open search in a new tab (or window). It seems like the natural way to browse: I read an online article, run into an unknown term, select it and search it up in a new tab using context-menu-search. All of this is done with a single click and without leaving the original page (instead of going back one page, which then needs to be reloaded).

Not sure how difficult it is to program this feature, but it seems to be well worth the effort.

If I could follow up on this... is there a way to get the new tab to be selected? I've got Firefox set to select new tabs when they open, but when I ctrl+click on a diigo search, the new tab is not selected. Thanks!

Y, we noticed the problem and recorded. To work around before we fix it, you can middle click ( if you use mouse) the search button, then the new tab can be selected.

Hi, I have a question regarding customized search feature.
I use the search feature via context menu which pops up after a selection has been made. This, however, does not work if I select text in input boxes, for example, the text I'm writing now. If I right click on selected text here and choose Google search, it just goes to Google but doesn't include any keywords to search. Is it possible to add such a feature?

Another suggestion regarding customized search would be ability to add sub-categories.

When you select some content in a HTML page, so called "right-click menu" comes up offering actions to perform on the selected content. You choose Google search and Google website shows up with your query. However, if you select text that is not a HTML content, it isn't working.

For example, go to Google and input anything in the search box. Don't hit enter, but select what you just typed. Right click, and try to perform any search engine action on your selection. The website you selected appears but search query is empty.

You might not see this feature very useful, but think about it. For example, imagine you write a forum post and you forget how to say something in English (provided English isn't your native language). You just write the word in your native language, select it, right click and do a lookup on a translating search engine you added to Diigo engines list (ctrl-click so it opens in a new tab). Saves some clicks. Other Firefox extensions already provide such a feature but they lack a lot of what Diigo has to offer.

About my other suggestion regarding customization of search engines, as it is now, you can make top-level (root) categories. You can add search engines to one of the root categories. But you can't add another category to a root category. See an example on the following image:

Search Menu Customisation Problem

Hello All,

I am having a problem with my diigo toolbar search menu. The problem is that I find the customised search engines of my first seach category replicated in every other search category of mine except for the first engine which is normally on top --above the line. The customised search webpage is fine; the problem is only in the toolbar.

Only When I check "show on toolbar" checkbox the search category becomes as I want it but separated from the search menu and that's not a practical solution with several search categories.

Can you please help me figure out a solution for this problem?

PS:

Neither my Firefox nor my diigo extension needs update.

I really like the customized search feature. Two things, albeit minor, that would improve the feature and make it more user friendly:

1. Add the ability to choose an icon for the custom categories that you add
2. Ability to move a customized search to a different category

How important having the icons are, since you can customize the name anything you wish?

First, you know you can drag and drop the search category positions in this page http://www.diigo.com/customize_search

Second, although we don't offer a "merge categories" or move feature, you can easily add any engine to any category by clicking "customize engine"

After the latest Diigo toolbar update (version 1.0.2007051201), I am experiencing a new error with the drop-down lists in the "multiple category search." For each category, such as "blog" or "web", the first choice in that list is correct. Now however, no matter which category I move my cursor over, the choices listed after the first option are incorrect. Each category lists the other choices that are under the bookmarks category. For example:

Actual Customized search settings:
- Bookmarks = Diigo, Furl, Blinklist
- Web = Google, Yahoo, MSN
- Blog = Technorati, Bloglines, Feedster

Displayed options under drop-down search menu:
- Bookmarks = Diigo, Furl, Blinklist
- Web = Google, Furl, Blinklist
- Blog = Technorati, Furl, Blinklist

Does that make sense? I've tried logging out and back in. I've even tried it on a different computer with minimal extensions installed. It worked fine before this latest update. I can send you a screenshot if you'd prefer.

Hello Diigo team.
Since i updated the toolbar for firefox (version is 1.0.2007051201), i have some trouble with the search menue in my toolbar.
Although the customization should be configured correct, i even restored the default settings, i can only search with the default search in every category. The other 3 search engines are showing Yahoo, MSN ans Ask, although otherwise configured, in every category.
In the "blog" category for example, the customization is set to Technorati, bloglines, feedster and Blogpulse. When i click the Web Button on my toolbar and then go to blog, i see technorati as default (this one works), then Yahoo, MSN and Ask, instead of the configured searches. when clicking on one of the last 3 services, i get no result, nothing happens.
