Toolbar (FF) Bugs in Editing a Current Bookmark

This bug has to do with any tag that is two words in quotes.

Here's an example.
1. I go to the White House page : whitehouse.gov
2. I use the FF toolbar to tag the page: "White House"
3. I visit My bookmarks at the Diigo site.
4 I see the most recent bookmark of whitehouse.gov and so far the tag "White House" is intact.
5 I go to the White House site again. I use the toolbar to edit the bookmark.
6. I enter a description.
7 I go back to My Bookmarks,
8. Without out me doing it, the tag "White House" has been changed to two separate tags, White and House.

Here's the problem. When the window pops up with my saved current information for the bookmark of the site I am on, it reinterprets any two word tag WITHOUT the quotes. Do I have retype in tags everytime I edit a site, or can you fix this?

got huge problems with my toolbar....cant see all my bookmarks. all with a "orange star" i can only see in "tags"...(all the private ones)

in one of my lists are 25 bookmarks, 5 open and 20 private....i can only see the first 5 ! this problem is since about a week.

Bookmark URLs exported to Delicious and Ma.gnolia break at ampersand character

I just discovered that when I use the "save elsewhere" feature on a bookmark with an ampersand in the URL, the exported URL breaks at the ampersand character. The ampersand and everything following it is dropped. I can't believe i never noticed this till now -- it means a bunch of my delicious bookmarks point to the wrong page.

For example, when I bookmarked the URL
http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=how-loss-of-privacy-may-mean-loss-of-security&print=true

the following URL was sent to Ma.gnolia and Delicious:
http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=how-loss-of-privacy-may-mean-loss-of-security

Del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia exporting has become erratic

For the last few days, only a fraction of the bookmarks I've saved using the Diigo toolbar have been exported to del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia. Based on the posting times, it looks as though exporting stopped, (but not completely) sometime on July 28. SInce then, I have posted fourteen links to Diigo. Four were posted to del.icio.us, and five were posted to Ma.gnolia (the same four, plus one more), all today. The last batch were posted to Diigo using the toolbar sometime on July 28 and were forwarded to del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia around 11 pm EDT, July 30.

Any insight would be helpful. I am very dependent on the export feature.

I don't know if there is a link, but del.icio.us has been upgraded to a new version. Perhaps a (temporary ?) problem of compatibility ? I myself had this problem when I discovered that del.icio.us had changed.

That could be the explanation. I was doubtful since the same problem seemed to be affecting Ma.gnolia exports the same way. However, today, Ma.gnolia posts seem to have "caught up" to Diigo, but del.icio.us posts haven't (I guess I have to start calling it delicious.com now).

I have posted two more bookmarks and they have been automatically saved in my delicious account.

Update: After several successful posts a few days ago, none of my Diigo bookmarks have been saved to delicious. I had an email exchange with Joel from Diigo, who said the problem was on delicious's side. However, I have several other services auto-posting to delicious without trouble, and it seem like other people haven't been having the same problem. So, for the moment, I'm going to hold off on posting anything to Diigo, since it doesn't look like this issue's going to be solved.

On the other hand, posting to Ma.gnolia seems to be working fine.

I still have no problem with delicious. Well, to be honest, I had the problem once or twice, but I had just to try again the following day and it worked.

Some time after making my original post, the problem seems to have been corrected. Over the past week or two, I have been finding that exports to delicious have been working quickly and reliably. Sorry, I should have posted this update earlier.

Yeah nevermind, it appears as if "Validate account" only validates your username, and not the password. I re-entered my credentials and it was fine.

Diigo could have probably let me know that it was just a password problem though. :|

Lately - each time I rouse my laptop from hibernation, it seems - my Diigo fails to bookmark sites that I want it to. I've noticed that the little "Book+" (a.k.a. "One-click bookmark") icon goes not change colour from grey to red, and moreover, the site does not get recorded in My Bookmarks.

My first guess was that it's a server problem, i.e. that the bookmark is actually saved, but My Bookmarks is updating too slowly. However, refreshing My Bookmarks (many, many times) does not help, nor does logging out and back into Diigo. What I have to do is close all my tabs+windows and restart my browser, which now leads me to think that it's a local problem, i.e. a bug in the toolbar.

- Does anyone else have this problem?
- How do I fix this?

Lastly, a quick word of thanks to the Diigo team for all the work they've done so far; they really outdid themselves with DiigoV3! I'm glad to say that it has worked flawlessly for me up until now, and I have full faith that they can (once again) help me out ...

"Submission failed" -- always

Diigo cannot seem to submit/catch my bookmarks/stickies. When I try to bookmark a page, the form comes up but then when I hit "submit," I get a "submission failed -- will retry" message. Every time. Similarly, on the page, highlighting works fine as does pulling up and typing into a sticky note but when I hit "submit," the submission fails. My highlights and sticky notes are retained through my session, with the notes popping up as they should -- always with the word "saving" at the end, as if in the process of being saved but not saved yet. I use the latest Firefox 2. I'd really like to use diigo too but obviously will not be able to if it cannot even save a single bookmark for me. Have searched the online help but this gives no aid for troubleshooting, just instructions about how it's supposed to work. Perhaps someone here can help?

Integration with the FF3 Star

Is there an option to integrate Diigo with the star used to bookmark sites in FF3? Its a funky new feature and it always looks so tempting to click it!
(to be honest i mostly highlight and use right click, but still, it'd be nice)

Alternatively, I've noticed that the Read It later extension added a small grey tick next to the star. Maybe diigo could have an option to add a small icon,

FF3 star also indicates whether the page is bookmarked in Firefox. It may bring some confusions to users. However, we'd love to hear more opinions on this issue.

BTW, Diigo toolbar will have a better read it later function soon.

Why del.icio.us for searching and diigo for bookmarking ? + IDEAS

Hi diigoers!

It's been a while I've been thinking about an idea to improve tag searching.

First:
Since all the many many many SBs (maybe 30 SB's ?) I've tried to use I now find myself bookmarking a bit with del.icio.us, a bit with Furl (for copies) and everyday with diigo.
So diigo is the winner! BRAVO !!!
It's the one I naturally find myself using. Thank you for this great service. :)
But for searching, I still use del.icio.us !!!

WHY?
One of the great aspects about SB is that it's social: Humanbots - we're supposed to get a human indexed web.
So the "search" side of SB's are crucial. Specially Tag search because they are defined by the humans.
But the problem with the social aspect of tags are numerous : vocabulary, misspelling, language…
Some say there should be no rule because everybody is free to put what he likes - OK I agree, but it means that a person who - for example - uses very few tags, or "personal home made tags" isn't thinking about sharing, so I won't count those (even if they does influence the popularity of a link, but that's an other issue)

I'm thinking of those social - not spam - bookmarks I would like in my tag search results.

Good tag search results also mean good tag managing, but as most don't bother about it I thought it would be nice to have some automated support.

The "suggested" or "popular" tags on the "add bookmark" page is a good feature in that direction.

HOW?

Some ideas for the tag manager:

- spell checker - and for obvious errors an automatic correction (eg. automatically remove triple letters like "acesss")
- option to ignore singular and plural (some do use them on purpose and some don't) eg. a feature that would automatically put them together in one tag
- synonym support. eg. advise similar popular tag ?

For searching :
- language support
- file - media type support
- wildcard support ?

What do you think?

I have difficulty loading diigo on a windows 2000 server. so an option to view lighter pages?
In the tag manager I see tags that I had split in two are still stuck together as one tag.
And I really need to know from what URL people post messages. I get some critics about a link but I don't know what link they are talking about.

I am incredibly frustrated with the bookmarking tool. I have been going through a list of around 50 site and bookmarking them via the IE(7) tool. This is a list that I am adding from a personal list (they are not bookmarked anywhere else). I went through all 50 sites, but only the first 18 registered in Diigo. Hence I wasted my time. This has happened a couple of times when I am bookmarking many sites in a row. Why?

I have seen this as well using Firefox 2 and the latest toolbar. I often mark a bunch of sites during the week without a tag, and then go through them on the weekend and tag them up. I noticed a couple of times this weekend that when I got into working through the bookmarks that a site I had already tagged would not have the changes saved. I verified the URL's were correct,

I spend a lot of time using public computers at a university library that runs its own browser. Apparently it does not allow plugins, and I can't make any version of the diigolet run either. (Actually I can get the diigolet bar to open on the tools page, but can't transfer it to any other pages).
Is there any other way to manually enter new bookmarks? For example, opening up a form from the "my bookmarks" page that allows me to manually type in the web address, page title, description, etc.
I'm stuck and open to suggestions.

We offer a website "add a bookmark" feature - you can just input the url, tags, etc. in this case. Once you log in, you can find it via "My bookmarks" >> "More Actions" pull down menu.

Is there any way to edit a bookmark's URL? I have a bookmark that requires a trailing slash, but Diigo strips those, evidently. I don't see any way to fix the URL, so it always goes to a 404 error. Is this something that can be fixed?

I am a mac user and safari is my favourite browser by far, diigolet works fine for me with highlight and the like, but there is no friends share option only groups ?

I was also looking for the option to just add a bookmark without the diigolet

So I created a URL like so and this seems to work

works good when on an iPhone for example.

I think delicious does this much better with the tags listed for selection and the suggestions appear underneath as you type. The diigo page could just be tweaked ?- great for quick social bookmarking.
I would also prefere to see a simple tag like for:friendsname using diggo like delicious again would be good for on the move tagging. All the other features are great for research and I would use on my main mac or laptop but I need faster tagging and friend sharing like delicious.

if these two things where fixed i would drop delicious like a stone. oh and fully featured support for safari but I could wait for that one ;)

I guess he means submit it from a web page on the diigo site, rather than having to use the diigolet or toolbar.

It'd be a feature that'd be pretty useful, if only very occasionally.

Will it finally be able to synchronize my diigo bookmarks into firefox with the tags and everything in place?

Hi,

Though Diigo is still working on an Firefox 3 supported toolbar, here's a quick trick to the impatient that allows you to use Diigo toolbar with Firefox 3 beta.

Open new tab and type: about:config
Click on the "I will be careful, I promise" button (deselect the checkbox in here if this message is annoying)
Right click here anywhere and choose New -> Boolean
Type the name as: "extensions.checkUpdateSecurity" (without quotes of course)
In next dialog, choose false.
Now, install the toolbar and voila you'll have it!!

Just another note:

When we change the name/title of the bookmark from the original title that the web page gives us, (the field between URL and TAGS) the new title doesnt translate to Delicious. Instead, the title of the webpage translates.

Hi Jose,

If the pdf file has an unique URL, then you can simply bookmark like normal webpages.

My question came from this issue. In the past three years I have found on the web a lot of interesting pdf literature and storage them in a flash drive. Beside, it’s very difficult to me to bookmark and manage them. What do you think of his: If anyone found a good pdf file online, it could be an advantage to bookmark it, highlight it and put sticky notes to it using diigo. It could be great, isn’t it?

Indeed, except we're not in the business of uploading / storing the files :-)

My recommendation will be for you to locate such service to upload those files online elsewhere first. If they are good content, certainly would be great if you can share those resources with the community!

(I am not sure how they do it) but if a Google search brings up a pdf, you are normallly offered the option to convert the file to an HTML page. If you choose this option you can both bookmark and add annotations and sticky notes. Colleagues tell me that if the bookmark is shared, they can access the same comments

This suggests to me that the conversion to HTML is kept permanently on a server somewhere

Has anyone else tried this?

To bookmark an online PDF file:

Click on "My Diigo" > "More actions" > "Add a bookmark".
Type the link to the PDF file in the "URL" field.

However, the simple bookmark can not include highlight.

I strongly accept the idea from j_enrique77. As I read a lot of documents in pdf format online. I wish I could mark in them. But html conversion has a great loss of information in the docu, such as formulas, pictures. So diigo + pdf-to-html is a sub-optimal solution as I think.

Some online pdf read and mark services privide the online marking ability. However, I think an integrated all-in-one service will be much better.

Wish such service come soon from diigo!

I believe that is not within the scope of Diigo. They are working everyday to make its natural features (bookmarking, highlighting webpages, notes etc.) even better for us, and can't start working on such a complex thing from scratch. I understand that it'd be useful for many people, but you also have to understand that there are priorities. ;)

You can click the bookmark button on the toolbar to bookmark the "master" page. The right click bookmark button only works to the current frame.

I use diigo as my principal bokmark engine... and yes it's ok for most things... ,
1 --- but i don't find a good feedback link. So i'm here to try to be heard.
2 --- i've found that using the "highlight and sticky nites" is the fastest way to keep bookmarks: it's really boring to use the bookmark page ...
3 --- i'm always working on a principal subject when surfing the net, and manytimes, i'm falling on forums, which are very useful to keep tracks of solutions and same problems... and also many are used for tutorials: that's the ways.
pb of redundant gestures and tricks to use:
So i have to bookmark IN the same domain site, and ... to re-write (or copy but ...) the tags also ... as it is just the same domain coz of the same subject: sometimes, i've to highlight (my way to bookmark) the next page which is about the suite of the tutorial... and it should be integrated in the same bookmark link... as when i come back to the diigo's, i've to search to found the same subject i've bookmarked sooner.

solution:
1 ---make diigo's highlight the default bookmark tool
2 ---creating a case with "same domain link ?" which appears to create a "begin of classement" inside the same site ...

In the bookmark dialog box (when you push the Diigo button) I start to type in the Tag field and this happens:

Let's say I already have these tags:

pc-freeware
pc-hardware
pc-security
pc-software

When I type "p", I see them all in the drop down. When i continue with "pc" they all disappear! BUT, when I continue with "pc-" they all reappear. And so on and so on, same pattern.

This is on OS X 10.4.10, Firefox

I can't get the drop-down list of matching tags to appear at all, or even the pull-down list of all my tags. I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.8 under Windows XP.

I use http://onlywire.com to save my bookmarks to several sites at once- del.icio.us, ma.gnolia, etc.

I also have it set to save my boookmarks to Diigo, but they don't show up here.

Can anybody tell my why or how to fix it so they do?

Yes, I realize that but the toolbar does not work in Opera which is my browser of choice.

Additionally, I like OnlyWire and would prefer to use it for saving my bookmarks.

The fact that OnlyWire has a slot for Diigo indicates to me that there was an API for bookmarking on Diigo published at some point . Has that changed? Has the API been discontinued, or modified in a way that code written against previous versions no longer works?

Official API will be released in next version. Before it is available, you can use diigolet (http://www.diigo.com/tools/diigolet ) on Opera.

How can I change the default location of the "Diigo-Bookmarks" to just place the bookmarks created by the diigo tool bar with out having to create the "Diigo-Bookmarks" folder and placing them in their?

eg..

Sorry, you can't do it. However, In V3, you can get your bookmarks from the toolbar easily.

I'd also like to change the default sorting of the tags. Currently, it is set to "freq", but I find "alpha" much more useful. This should be changeable with "edit tags", or just remembered from your last session.

The whole tag cloud is displayed in "My bookmark" page, however, we find that tags we click most
often are recent tags. So, we plan to add an extra "Recent tag cloud" above the current tag cloud. Do you like it?
Another question, do you prefer the current tag cloud style ( shrunken in the tag cloud window) or an expanded tag cloud style (expand all tags)?

Sounds reasonable. Would this also hold recent tag combinations or only single tags? It would be great if tag combinations could be somehow remembered. Something like the dropdown attached to "edit filters" in the addon.

The current style is fine. I will have to scroll anyway, and it makes more sense and is faster to scroll only in the tag pane, not the complete window.

BUG? Strange refresh in bookmarking popup description field

Hi,

When I go to bookmark a webpage (right click -> diigo -> bookmark),

1) the pop-up "window" appears (as it should)

2) the Description field lags behind as it tries to load the WYSIWUG editor, and blinks/refreshes 2-3 times displaying "Internet Explorer cannot display page" within the editor

Q - is anyone else having this issue?
