Highlights and annotations not included in Blog This

When I use Blog This on items that have highlights and/or annotations, the highlights and annotations are not included in the resultant blog post. All I get is title and tags. I have been having this problem for months now. I have posted about this problem before, as have others. Are there any plans to fix this?

As far as I know, Diigo was the only service to provide this kind of feature, the ability to turn highlights, comments, annotations, etc., into a blog post. It was brilliant. But alas, it hasn't working in months. So, I'm left wishing that there was some kind of serve that does what Diigo used to do and still claims to do but does not, in fact, do.

We verified - all should be working fine - annotations should be included during blogthis operation. Also, we check your user account - seem like you haven't done much annotations.

Can you please advise your blog platform & URL (post here or send us a private email to info AT diigo dot com)? Would also be helpful if you can give us a sample URL of your annotated page and a screenshot of your blogthis action, so we can double check?

Yeah! It is working again! Thank you for being so responsive and helpful.

I have had other problems before because of the capitalization in the user name. Is it possible to change the user name to not include capitals?

Generally, blogthis links results in page not found error (any link that resolves to http://www.diigo.com/blog_this/)

Clicking "Blog" in toolbar will bring up edit page (link resolves to something like http://www.diigo.com/blog_this/edit_post/b912abdbac3fca669c5dc7e9a8e57b18) but couldn't

successfully add any new blogs. I tried both LiveJournal and MoveableType

LiveJournal:

Enter livejournal blog name, get No API error, go back, enter again, get the username password prompt --first attempt at finding the API always gets the error for some reason. Second attempt brings up the username password box. Enter the username and password, click add new blog, Add new blog button greys out but other than that eithr a) nothing seems to happen...page just sits there, or b) dialog box pops with message "Sorry, server error. [1503]"

Moveable Type:
Well, I couldn't figure out what all the fields that the advanced configuration box required were supposed to have, and couldn't find any help or documentation on them. What's the Endpoint? Should the url of the blog be the actual blog url or the mt.cgi url? Some kind of hints or annotation would be appreciated.

FYI, I am experiencing the same issue. Bog This was working fine for me until sometime last week. If was having probs with my daily auto-post not posting (http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/1371) and once the auto-post began working correctly, I could no longer use the Blog This function. Timing is probably a coincidence. As of this morning Blog This is not functioning for me either

I cannot get Diigo to recognise either of my blogs; Blogger or WordPress. Nothing happens when I type in the initial info, the box just sits there with my details and stays faded out.

Still doesn't work. I only tried with Livejournal this time, since I still don't know what to put in Endpoint for MT installations. I enter the LJ blog URL, and it asks for username and password....I enter those, and it goes off into never-never land. Never completes, never shows the blog in the list of blogs, never reports an error....

I'm getting End Point is Invalid when trying to connect via MetaWebLog API.
I have tried both the Blogger API and the MW API with Atlassian Confluence which has the Bloggin RPC plugin in turned on

Can someone tell me what the end point might be.

I am also trying to set up for Blog This using my MT blog. I tried both the guided setup and the advanced screen. On the guided setup, I get a message saying the blog can't be verified and on the advanced, I have *no* idea what blog ID is. The RPC url and API password are correct b/c I've got a different blog on the same server integrated with Flickr. I *really, really, really* want to use this feature and would appreciate some assistance....

Same here, although my blog is listed under blogspot.com, not blogger.com (even though the two are the same company).

I can't seem to find an appropriate entry for the endpoint, although Google's API page seems to indicate a possible solution here (for PHP, but other languages are listed):

Blog Type/Service: BloggerAPIEnabled Blog
Blog Id: foo
Your Blog URL: http://foo.blogspot.com/

It appears to be valid, but when I attempt to send a blog entry it comes back:

Post Failed!

HTTP method POST is not supported by this URL
Error 405

http://www.blogspot.com/api is not accepted by diigo.

1) BloggerAPI is not the same as the API Google's blogger/blogspot uses.
2) If you use blogspot and want to use advanced setting in Diigo, you need to choose New Blogger Blog
3) We suggest you don't use the advanced setting, just let Diigo detect the setting for you by inputing your blog url http://foo.blogspot.com/ in http://www.diigo.com/blog_this/config

Let me know if you still experience problems.

Except that if I just enter the URL of the blog and enter the login/password, then diigo never seems to return. The buttons stay grayed out and nothing happens for minutes at a time. Hence my reason for trying the advanced settings in the first place.

If I just reload the page, then it looks like diigo understands. But then if I try to actually post something using diigo to my blog, I get:

Post Failed!

* Foo (none exsit user or wrong password)

Okay, someone doesn't know how to spell.....

No, I'm on a Mac. I use Firefox or Safari. (Safari doesn't work as happily with diigo, so if I can get the blog this feature to work, I'll probably move back over to FF full time.)

The test above was in FF. However, I just tried to submit a post, and this time it seemed to work. I'll be checking the formatting and stuff in a bit.

Same here. I never use IE unless I know specifically that a website won't work with any other browser. In Firefox I get the same misbehavior

Thanks for your efforts so far, but unfortunately, I still can't get it set up. I'm working on a MacBook Pro in Firefox and the results haven't changed. The blog is Movable Type v.3.3.

Since all of the following is public, here's what I've been entering in the wizard (less the password):

Blog URL: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/westx045/data/
Username: westx045
XML-RPC: https://blog.lib.umn.edu/cgi-bin/mt-xmlrpc.cgi

Each time, Diigo retuns a message that the blog can't be verified.

Did you publish the fix yet? 'Cause I'm still seeing the same behavior: after the livejournal userid and password prompt clicking on the button causes it to grey out but nothing else visible happens and it never returns...

I am also having trouble. When I type the URL to my blog (a Manila site using the MetaWeblog API) - everything is good. I enter my user name and password and the bookmark posts to my blog. But when I go to add another entry, I get an InValid warning in the saved blogs section. I delete the listing - enter the URL again - and it works. But only the initial time.

I tried using xmlrpc.php attached to my WP blog which gave me an error. However, I was able to get into "advanced" mode, and finally got it working.

Blog ID - enter your wordpress API; see http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/10/19/api-key/

Blog URL - http://msomustheory.wordpress.com is mine, for example

Blog Name - self explanatory

Endpoint - mine is http://msomustheory.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php; see http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/01/can-i-post-from-outside-wordpresscom/

User name - self explanatory

Password - self explanatory

Hope that helps the WordPress crowd at least.

That blog id thing seems only to be a feature of WordPress.com blogs, not WordPress blogs hosted elsewhere:

"You must have registered here at wordpress.com to get an API key. Just having a wordpress blog somewhere else does not get you a key"

My Profile tab on the Dashboard, for instance, doesn't say anything about the API key or blog id. I tried guessing by looking in the config file for the database name, but I got "Your blog settings cannot be verified. Please check"

I'll dig a little more, but for the moment this doesn't seem to help unless you're being hosted at WordPress.com...

Hi All, Joel particularly it looks like,

I am also having difficulty using my wordpress 2.3.1 site with FF on a mac. The blog url returns a 1503 error and advanced entry tells me my settings cannot be verified.

Has this been addressed at all for stand-alone wordpress installations?

I've had no problem getting other blog detection set up to work (scribefire, etc) - but between non-functional auto-detect (in FF or IE with and without the SecFilterInheritance Off in .htaccess) with no useful error messages, and an advanced screen that has meaningless fields (blog number?), it seems that this hasn't worked right for wordpress in 4 months?

The autodetect now works on my Movable Type blogs. I don't know whether it works for stand-alone WordPress, and I'm reluctant to disable my working WP installation to test it, but I can say that once the advanced stuff is set up (and possibly a change is made to the .htaccess file) the Blog This to a WP blog is currently working. The settings are:

Type: MetaWeblog API
Blog Id: 1 (this seems to matter for multiple MT blogs on a single installation, but I'm not sure it does for WP)
Blog URL: http://whateveryoururl.com/wordpress/
Blog Name: name of the blog (I think this is a display label for Blog This, rather than something that has to match something in your WP installation)
Endpoint: http://whateveryoururl.com/wordpress/xmlrpc.php
Username: your WP username
Password: your WP password

I don't recall whether changing something in the .htaccess actually proved to be necessary, or if that was a red herring, but Joel can probably enlighten us.

My Diigolet bar doesn't show any "blog this" link, even when I select some text. Blog is set up already.

After using the Blog This tool many times successfully, in the last week it has stopped extracting highlights and annotations. All I get is the title and the URL. Comments and highlights have been saved successfully. I have tried it on a number of different pages. Still doesn't work. Any assistance you can provide is much appreciated.

If I highlight some text I want to be reproduced on a blog, then click either BlogThis in the dropdown menu or the button on the toolbar, no text or only the first 2 lines appear in the window that opens, so I have to then copy and paste the text I want in my blog. I don't know if this is how it should now work, but I'm pretty sure that previously all the highlighted text was copied to the window automatically - that was much more convenient.

I use Blogger.com and WordPress with the latest Firefox.

1) Check whether the highlights were stored successfully in your my bookmark page first
2) Try highlight and blog this on another page to see whether you encounter the same problem
3) Give us the URL you met the blog this problem.

b. Choose blog this in the more action drop down menu
If you still fail to send the highlights to the blog this window, the bug may be related to specific account. Please change your password to a temp one, and send it to joel 【at】 diigo dot com. We will look into it closely.
If you can send highlight to blog this window from your "My bookmark" page, that means the new FF toolbar may conflict with other FF Extensions. In this case, Could you send your FF profile to us, and we'd like to help you out

I am having the same problem....which is weird, because I have never had this problem before. I have used the Blog This function many times and the highlights and comments were extracted and placed into the body of the blog post. Now, the only thing that gets entered into the post is the title, URL, and a link that says "Annotated." I hope you can get this fixed soon.

Operations related to config didn't involve Blog ID parameter, however, "Post Blog" action need right Blog ID.

With one blogger account , you can have several blogs. Blog ID parameter was used to identify the different blogs you may have. Your previous blog-this setting in Diigo had the right Blogger account but wrong Blog ID, so your account was valid but you fail to post blog. We found the problem and changed the Blog ID to the right one.

Elgg (http://elgg.org) is a hot new social networking / blogging system. While it is still at beta 0.8 it's very good. I would like to get Blogthis working with it to encourage the students to use Diigo for their bookmarking needs. Both Scribefire (Firefox plugin) and the Flock browser can post directly using the API : MetaWeblog and the API URI : http://blogs.barnabas.earlham.edu/_rpc/RPC2.php but I have not been able to get Blogthis working with these parameters. Any advice?

I use the "blog this" feature quite a bit. I like the idea, but it has been difficult for me to use.

With the wysiwyg feature I find it challenging to insert more space so that I can add content after the title. I like to explain that what falls below the title is clippings from the original article. Without any explanation it seems that it would be confusing for my readers. To add the space I have to go into the "source". After I hit the "source" button again to go back to the wysiwyg view I find that the bullets at the beginning of each clipping are gone.

It has a listing of many wysiwyg editors.

I'm assuming that you want to use open source, but if you were going to use a commercial version I have used ewebedit pro from Ektron quite a bit--seems to work well.

But, it looks like FCKeditor is not a bad choice either, are you running the latest version (2.4.3)?

Here's an issue that has come up today for me while trying to use the blog this feature on Firefox 2.0.0.6 / Mac OS X
Pulling up the contextual menu on a page and clicking on blog this results in this
"Sorry, the page you requested can not be found"
I was able to correct it by logging out and back in, it worked once but now the error is back.
I also noticed that two of my five blogs enabled showed "invalid" clicking on edit corrected that back to "valid". Something's happening here but I don't know what it is......

Here's a follow-up on the problem. Just after posting the previous comment, I was trying again and the correct page opened up. Thought I was home free. After preparing the post and clicking on "post" I got the page not found error again. Annoying, as I just wasted another half hour of work!!

Also, it would be great if in this forum posts jpg's could be inserted to show you screen shots with error texts and such.

Latest version Diigo Toolbar (1.0.2007053100) to Flock 0.7.14 blocking the "blog this" (Ctrl + B) in the browser Flock.

I checked it on two computers, the error is repeated.

No other extensions are installed.

I frequently use "diigo" to collect highlights from webpages that I later add to my blog. I have noticed that all the highlights I collect from a single webpage accumulate under a single bookmark on my diigo webpage. This is good in a way as it keeps my page tidy, though it forces me to do some additional work when I am later required to blog each of the highlighted entries as a separate post on my "wordpress" blog. As I know of, by default all the highlights under a single bookmark are blogged as a single post. May I know if there is any way I can blog these as separate posts.

Secondly, and also related to my initial request, is if I can add tags to each of my highlighted entry, independent of its parent bookmark; and further that my tags could be sent to my blog (along with its highlighted entry) to be filled-in as "categories". That should speed up my work considerably. Anticipating your reply. Thank you in advance.
