Viewing/Sharing Public Annotations

annotations | post by plugusin on 2008-07-09

Hey all,

I'm a new Diigo user and I'm struggling! I've left a few public annotations on a news article:

http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/technology/tech-usa-education-technology.html?_r=2&oref=slogin

And asked other members of a team that I'm a part of to join me in the conversation.

The challenge is that no one can see my annotations---and I can't see theirs! Heck, sometimes when I go back to this article through Diigo, I can't even see my own annotations.

I've been reading through the strands here for info about annotations, I've checked out the tutorials on help and I've Googled for answers, but I can't seem to find a simple solution.

Any ideas about what might be going wrong? How can I add public annotations that others can see when they visit the same shared article? And how can I see the public annotations that other people have left on the same article?

Is there a setting that I need to tweak? A particular link that I need to send/share?

Thanks for your advice,

Bill
post by plugusin on 2008-07-09

Hi,
I checked your bookmark and the URL in your bookmark is http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/technology/tech-usa-education-technology.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin . I can view your public comments by clicking the Comment button on the toolbar. However, the URL you post in the forum is http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/technology/tech-usa-education-technology.html?_r=2&oref=slogin. They are different URLs, so you can't see your comments on the page.
post by joel on 2008-07-10

I've been looking at some links with a coworker and she first had them disappear entirely when she was viewing her bookmarks from her diigo page, then had them appear in IE but not in Firefox...

We'd like to do a "profile" on how great diigo can be for the faculty & students at our school, but we don't want to risk giving them inconsistent information if something behaves differently depending on the browser (or browser version) they're using.

She's got the latest version of the toolbar installed on both browsers and both of the browsers are up to date... ????
post by ebarney on 2008-04-15

I have been putting together some notes on the Firefox toolbar. I did have a problem in Firefox, where anything I would highlight or sticky note would not "stick" with Firefox. It worked fine in IE on the same machine. The whole page comments were working fine. I was able to resolve the issue by deleting my Firefox profile and reinstalling the toolbar. Kind of drastic, but I could not get it fixed any other way.

I will also add though that the Add Inline Comment feature of a highlight does not work for me in Firefox. It only gives me the option to create a sticky note, and those cannot be made public. I can see other users inline notes ,but cannot add one of my own.

Hope that helps.
post by seanbrady on 2008-04-15

I'll forward this on, but I hope these issues can be resolved soon with more consistency!

Sean Brady wrote:
> I have been putting together some notes on the Firefox toolbar. Today I got on my homepage, google.com.au, and saw all these annotations/highlights from others. I really don't want "collaborative research" on websites I visit. Makes me feel like my computer is being invaded. Is there any way of getting rid of this? It's killing me and I'm very very very very tempted to uninstall Diigo now.
