TMI-Alert Inc. sharply disagrees with the results of a recent poll paid for and released by Exelon on the relicensing of Three Mile Island. At issue are the questions that were not asked. The poll also failed to note that a majority of the folks who actually testified before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission were against extending the license of TMI-1.

Nuclear energy provides Switzerland with 40 per cent of its power but more than half of the public oppose the technology to some degree, a survey has revealed. The study, released on Tuesday by the Federal Energy Office, found that just seven per cent of respondents were totally in favour of energy production by nuclear power stations. Double that percentage were fully opposed.

It's second only to coal for electricity production in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. And yet in its recent public survey, Three Mile Island repeatedly refers to nuclear power as an "alternative energy source."

A Three Mile Island-commissioned public-opinion poll that favors the continued operation of the plant will not influence a pending federal decision to renew the site's operating license for 20 more years. "The poll means nothing to (the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission)," NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said. "We don't base our decisions on polls that are put out by companies that operate plants."

MOSCOW, April 29 (UPI) -- A Russian survey suggests 41 percent of citizens support nuclear power. Nearly half of all Russians think there will be no alternative to nuclear energy if Russia eventually runs out of crude oil and natural gas, the survey results suggest. Eighteen percent favor the use of hydropower and 10 percent suggest coal, according to the Levada Center poll, the Daily News Bulletin reported.
