Lockheed Martin Corp. has acknowledged it installed the wrong pipe in a water treatment system that leaked Aug. 3, spilling more than 5,000 gallons of contaminated water. Moreover, the spill penetrated soil up to 30 feet away from the treatment system used to clean toxic groundwater from the source of the Tallevast plume, according to an incident report Lockheed filed as required with state regulators on Friday.

A Boulder, Colo., laboratory says new tests show that more people were exposed to plutonium than originally thought after a June spill there. No one who was exposed is expected to have significant health effects. The Limerick Nuclear Power Plant wasn't the source of radioactive sludge that was to be sent to two local landfills from a Royersford sewage treatment plant. A small amount of uranium powder escaped from a machine at a Japanese nuclear fuel plant near Tokyo, slightly exposing a worker to radiation, the plant operator said Thursday. Confirmation that radioactive brine has been leaking for two decades from a German underground deposit for nuclear waste is yet another blow to the idea that nuclear power can safely increase electricity generation and simultaneously reduce emissions. Radioactive leaks from the nuclear waste deposit Asse II near Braunschweig in Lower Saxony, some 225 km southwest of Berlin, were first discovered in 1988.
