June 23 (Bloomberg) -- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will meet with his Japanese counterpart Yasuo Fukuda next month to discuss a nuclear-fuel reprocessing contract, worth about 1 billion pounds ($1.98 billion) a year, the Telegraph reported.

The Department of Energy has awarded the new Hanford contract covering cleanup of the central area of the nuclear reservation to CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co. It is a limited liability company formed by CH2M Hill Constructors and includes Areva Federal Services, East Tennessee Materials & Energy Corp. and Fluor Federal Services as major subcontractors. The contract is worth $4.5 billion over 10 years, which includes a five-year base period and an option to extend it for five more years, according to DOE. It replaces a portion of an expiring contract now held by Fluor Hanford.

The nuclear major received nearly $90 million from Brazilian utility Eletronuclear to carry out extensive service on the Angra-1 and Angra-2 nuclear power plants in Angra dos Reis in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.

WASHINGTON, June 2 (UPI) -- The United States and Turkey Monday began a 15-year agreement to cooperate on peaceful uses of nuclear energy, the U.S. State Department said. The pact "provides a comprehensive framework for peaceful nuclear cooperation" between the two nations, "under agreed non-proliferation conditions and controls," the State Department news release stated.

DENVER (AP) - Colorado will get $35 million to help clean up and restore a former nerve gas and chemical manufacturing site near Denver that was deemed among the most polluted in the country. Shell Oil Co., which made pesticides and other chemicals at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, will provide $21 million in cash and land under an agreement announced Thursday to settle a 25-year-old state lawsuit. The Army and federal government will provide the rest.

NEW DELHI, May 27 (Xinhua) -- India has received the first consignment of uranium fuel from Russia for unit-1 of 1000 MW Kudankulam nuclear power project, according to the NDTV Tuesday. The Kudankulam nuclear power project, comprising of two units of 1000 MW each, are at an advanced stage of completion in technical collaboration with the Russian Federation and the Low Enriched Uranium fuel for its first unit arrived at Kudankulam, in Tamil Nadu state of India Sunday.

AIKEN — The U.S. Energy Department has finalized a $2.7 billion contract with a French company to build a South Carolina plant where weapons-grade plutonium will be converted into commercial reactor fuel, the company announced today. Yucca Mountain project chief Edward F. IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) announced today that the Department of Energy (DOE) confirmed its January 2008 selection of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC, a Fluor-led team, as the winning bidder for the management and operating (M&O) contract at the Savannah River Site near Aiken, S.C. The estimated $4 billion contract is over a five-year period. Additionally, there are five, one-year renewal options bringing the potential total contract value to $8 billion. To date, no specific contract amounts have been booked into Fluor’s backlog. Fluor expects to start booking earnings from the M&O contract into backlog in the third quarter of 2008.
