InBalance has been been developed by a team of European research and learning institutions.The purpose of the project is to support and develop adult tutors of numeracy and provide structured and engaging materials for learners of several abilities. InBalance is a realistic & systematic methodology based on the needs of individual learners & their practical everyday experiences.The InBalance website presents you with a European Numeracy Framework. It describes in detail European levels of competence in numeracy relating to real life situations. There is also a bank of learning materials & an assessment tool for you to use with your own learners; and an exercise maker which will assist you to create your own learning materials.

This leaflet gives a quick overview of what ML learners will learn and how the knowledge will assist them in real life situations. It show the applicability of ML as a great subject.

The aim of this study was thus to investigate mathematical literacy in relation to learners' motivations for the contexts they would prefer to deal with in mathematical literacy. The emphasis of the study is to concentrate on learner's written motivations for mathematical contexts. Data were collected using a questionnaire that deals with contexts for mathematics.

Place value in an extremely important concept that is taught as early as in kindergarten and as students learn about larger numbers, the concept of place value continues throughout the middle grades. Place value refers to the value of the digit based on its position. Place value is a concept that is difficult for young learners. Understanding place value fully requires many hands on experiences.

This simple Investigation, I did in the first term. It is not difficult to complete for the learners, but it takes a while to complete because they had to go out and "get" the answers. However, it went well because i actually had a 100% handing-in rate, which is always good.

All the materials developed by MALATI are in the public domain. They may be freely used and adapted, with acknowledgement to MALATI and the Open Society Foundation for South Africa. The documents provided here are the teacher documents, consisting of the learner activities and accompanying teacher notes. We also include the rationale document for each content area, giving background on the underlying philosophy and design principles.

The 30 videos offered by Mindset give a good overview of the content of the Mathematical Literacy curriculum and rich ideas for ways of teaching it in an engaging way that helps learners see how relevant this subject is for them.

The NCETM site features articles covering a range of topics raising awareness of research items and professional development opportunities as well as activities and resources to use with learners. Signposting includes: items from NRICH - embedding rich mathematics tasks into everyday practice; Skills for Life UPDATE magazine - raising awareness of content with a numeracy focus; the Get On Campaign - giving news of the latest campaign features on darts and football with links to campaign resources for use by numeracy practitioners; and the 'Quicklinks' which lead to more support for numeracy teachers.
