In stage II it has spread outside of the ovaries to the uterus or fallopian tubes. In Stage III the cancer has spread outside of the pelvic area but still within the abdomen. Stage IV means the cancer has started to spread throughout the body.

One of the alternative treatments to cancer that you can add in addition to your doctors orders is a mind and body therapy. This therapy focuses on behavior, faith and emotions. The treatments can include hypnosis, biofeedback and counseling. These techniques will not cure cancer but can greatly change your attitude about it and give your emotional life a lift.

Try to get some exercise, even just a little bit, if you want to keep cancer away. Recent studies show that men who were able to fit in even thirty minutes of exercise a week decreased their chances of getting prostate cancer. Exercise can be as simple as a walk, or as complex as a day at the gym. Whatever your choice, make exercise a priority.

Insurance is important for every cancer patient to have. Insurance can cover the cost of medical bills, which can become very expensive due to doctor visits and treatments. Seek out many different insurance options, either through your employer, through your state or through local groups that may help those with cancer.

Keep a phone handy whenever you are home. If you need to have one installed in your bedroom, do it, otherwise take your cordless phone with you wherever you go in your home. You may need it for emergencies or you may find it to be a great social connection when you are bored.

Do not keep a strong front around everyone. If you have been diagnosed with cancer, you do not need to keep a brave front in front of everyone. Get support from your family and close friends and be sure to express to some of them how you are actually feeling.

Understand that with cancer some people are going to be awkward and nervous around you. This isn't actually a fear of you. They realize that cancer isn't contagious. They just do not know how to approach the subject. Do not take it personally if people are a bit standoffish at first.

Your body and mind are going to react to the many treatments that you are going to go through. You need to stay on top of how you are processing things in your mind so that if things are slipping, you can let your caregiver know as soon as possible.

Beware of the sun even on cloud covered days. The harmful rays of the sun are still making their way through the clouds and to your skin. Keep sunscreen applied even if you do not feel the heat of the sunrays. They are still causing the damage that they would if there was not a cloud in the sky.

There are many stigmas with cancer that still exist today. People will often wonder if cancer is contagious, if those with cancer can perform as well as someone without cancer, of if cancer patients will be offended at the very mention of the disease. Try to eliminate these stigmas among your friends and family if they arise.
