The Ab-mxr workout abdominal equipment was invented by Joanna Kabbani - Skeptical?, I joined her for a work-out. The device is weighted (up to 3kg), along with small handles, and it's molded to cushion your head and neck.

It's been tested by chiropractic specialist Dr Mikael Porath Petersen from Optimal Spinal column Medical center, who points out: 'It makes it possible to perform symmetrical workouts effectively and securely.'

Straight off I handled 15 sit-ups without any of my typical straining - I felt balanced and within control.

I only took the 1kg brand home to trial. It was simple to maneuver around the house and, despite being a whiplash victim, I was given the self-assurance that I had been working out properly. It's a brilliant piece of kit - despite the fact that I will need a lot more than five minutes using it before I'm bikini ready..."

We are truly thankful to Bonnie, who's provided all of us with an inside look at the The Abs Work-out device "AB-MXR"

"I'm deeply suspicious of exercise fads and quick-fix artifacts - honestly, I just don't believe that there is anyway apart from a healthier lifestyle and sweating a lot to actually improve your fitness, but nonetheless I am always inquisitive any time something new comes on the marketplace which promises to help make exercising that little easier, and this is the way I met Joanna Kabbani.

Clearly more fit than fit because of a life time dedicated to the cause and a short career as a professional dancer at Pineapple Studios, Kabbani created her cutting edge Ab Mxr after having a car accident that left her with injuries to the neck and thus not able to train with out putting it at risk.

What's intriguing however is the fact that she affirms the product has in fact made her healthier than she was before - difficult to believe as she demonstrates the overall flexibility swinging it about with far more fizz than a severely agitated bottle of Lucozade: "I have two kids, and have always had a flat tummy as a trainer, however this has made a true impact on skin too (demonstrates by means of pinching of non-existent surplus flesh). It's incredible! It's for everyone!" ... okay, so far, so good - if the designer is a prolific user that has to be a positive thing.

What exactly is it? When I'm approached with what essentially looks like Ferrari's take on a chopping board I wonder precisely how this specific training is going to progress ... but this is pretty much how it came about ... designed with formula one technology, however with initial prototypes created using the materials of her kitchen the Ab-Mxr is really a weighted contraption with a medically approved contour to support your neck while doing your sit ups or crunches.

Having two grips (ideally angled so you don't chip your nails while working out), it's also used for arm workout routines, leg workouts and all through her aerobic choreography to help you balance, generally work a bit harder, and significantly to ensure you use those all-important core muscles along the way.

Who's it for? Well this is really the rather smart thing regarding the Ab Mxr, although lots of people make the claim, I can easily see how this truly can be used by anyone. Partly since it does rather quickly target muscles, partly as you are able to select the level of intensity that you work at (if you don't move, it ain't gonna work), but mainly because it happens to be a very safe piece of equipment, and I was specifically pleased to find that when it came to a lengthy stretch of crunches my neck did not suffer from the expected strain that I typically manage to put on it in the struggle against gravity.

The fact that chiropractic specialist Mikael Porath Petersen raves about it is also comforting, however possibly most tellingly, a lady in the class who has had serious back problems has turned into a devotee and is keen to compliment both Kabbani and this chopping board, referred to as the ab-mxr workout.

What makes it work? The idea with this is it condenses all those huge, non-transportable pieces of exercise equipment into one product you can use both at home and in your hotel room on a business trip or vacation without taking up so much that you're going to fall down and break a bone. The key is within the weighting and the curve of the actual design and style.

The weights (which range from 1-5kg but skillfully, remaining the same size) certainly give you the workout, while the contour supports the neck and can also work to correct posture. When you own the Ab Mxr (at $95, it's actually an incredibly manageable purchase, especially if you are replacing your gym membership with it) it includes a set of suggested exercise routines in photograph format.
