As a huge science fiction nut and lover of space warships with frigging lasers about them, I should be the obvious candidate for being some sort of hardcore Eve Online player.
Eve Online allows you to explore a whole galaxy of possibilities, giving the player the possibilities to grow into a legendary space hero.
But it is also a complex experience containing no qualms about punishing your mistakes and will only hold your hand long enough for you to think "oh, this doesn't sound too bad", which is inevitably followed by horrible flaming vacuum infused passing.
I have tried beginning on playing Eve Internet probably 4-6 times through the years. I watch all the great trailers that really makes the game look incredibly awesome, using big majestic capital warships engaged in dazzling trades of fire. Or I read some articles about another political scandal containing occurred in a significant corporation, where some guy provides made off with billions of ISK or valuable blueprints.
And I believe to myself; "Man, which sounds/looks so incredible. I *got* to take part in that universe! " It's followed by me getting a trial account and having to pay 5-6 hours spiraling down the depths of despair as i realize that I am in way *way* above my head.
I don't know why I just can't learn from my own previous experiences, but Eve Online just seems to always draw me back and makes me forget my previous failures.
Perhaps I have been truly damaged by the more "player friendly" games that we mostly get these days to weeks. It is an increasing trend that video games ensure that players are never smacked way too hard . over their fingers, because that could risk the player turning off the game and, god restrict, maybe even deciding to look at their game back to their local game retailer and sell it for a used copy.
Having gotten useful to these "curling games", which sweep away any resistance in front of the player to allow for a completely smooth experience, maybe I just don't have the willpower in me now days to deep dive to a game that refuses to help "play nice" and take care of me.
To this day I still think that *maybe* eventually I'll start playing Eve Online and everything will just fall into place and I'll think "Aaaaah, I get the idea now! "
