After almost 15 years of riding bicycles and buying bicycle parts, I have discovered a few lessons. Among the list of lessons that I have learned is to talk to your locals when looking for a ride in unfamiliar location, and then do just the opposite, bicycle parts

When I travel I typically will try to ride some of the local trails. After driving on an hour only to get an overgrown 3 distance sissy loop on a few occasions, I have learned to cease by the local bike shop and get questions first. Most trail guide catalogs are too subjective regarding authors opinion of what exactly good trail and precisely what is not. I have learned to never trust just the booklet, especially if you have limited time, like you would probably on a business excursion or vacation.

So, on my trip out to help Salt Lake City this week, I stopped by way of the local bike shop to ask about where a lowlander like myself should go for his first day trip in the thin surroundings. i usually like to begin on with a relatively easy trail until I want a little acclimated on the altitude. So, I asked them where a simple trail ride would be. I told them I was a successful rider but not acclimated to the thin air, so I wanted something on the easy side. The usual glances down to my legs occurred and then among the list of fellows said that the prospector trail may be my best bet. He explained in great detail how to get there. None of which i actually understood, but I nodded and asked more about it. I told him that i didn’t want a trail that started out 3000 feet of rising up a jeep streets. He said, no the climbing came down to mellow and nothing higher than middle ring. As i said great. I will check it out. I then asked are there any lame or boring trails available that I should make sure to avoid, as I don’t wish to waste any time. he or she said, yeah the BST is actually boring. Oh, I claimed and where is that will, so I make sure and avoid. He gave me the general area and I nodded and said thanks and has been on my way.

I acquired back to my vehicle, pulled out my IPad and looked in the BST (Bonneville Coast Trail). I had ridden the BST up near Ogden before, but not the section near Salt Lake City. I pointed your vehicle to the boring trl, I rode it and had a great time. It was just correct, not too much climbing immediately, and a fun swoopy roller coaster trail that makes you grin.

Why did I do just the opposite involving what the bike store guy said? Because May possibly leaned my lessons. Bike shop guys always wish to show off. Especially each time a low lander comes to town, so they like to send us out to help lung buster super gnarly stuff, and then I think they've already a good chuckle about this as we leave. i had a pretty good ride once I got to the top, but I spent the first hour just going in place.
