Teenagers all access the country look forward to their sixteen birthdays. This is the day when they finally can get behind the wheel of a car. Too bad teen car insurance is so expensive. Insurance companies see teens as bigger risks then most drivers and are afraid they are going to have to pay out more in insurance claims. A driver that is sixteen is ten times more likely to be involved in an auto accident then other driver. They are also three times more likely to die in a car accident. While this number is slowly decreasing, auto insurance companies still see young drivers as big risks and that is why they will pay higher insurance rates and premiums on their coverage.

Teenage drivers are accident prone. While it is not true for all young driver those fifteen to seventeen years old have more auto accidents than any other age group. These are several factors that expert thinks contribute to a high number of accidents. Teens are inexperienced drivers. Even the care ones do not have enough experience on the road for all situations. If a car stops short a person has to instantly react. Teen may panic. Also control of the car is learned with experience and years of driving a car. Teens are often not prepared to drive in bad weather conditions. A little rain or fog can greatly affect visibility. A teen does not have the experience to handle such challenging road conditions and may wreck. Other reasons teens have so many accidents is that they are often distracted. Teenagers often have loud music playing, are on their phones, or are talking to other people in the vehicle. The road should have their undivided attention and often times it does not. These accidents cost insurance providers thirty four billion dollars in claim payouts a year. Since the insurance companies have to pay out that much money they want to make it back by raising the price of insurance coverage.

There are some cheap offers on teenage auto insurance but they are not automatic. Some insurance companies will lower the insurance policy rate a little of the student maintains a B average. The insurance company is not going to be asking for grades however. It is up to the parents and the teen to provide this information to the insurance company. There are other discounts such as completing a driver's education course and other academic related discounts. If a young driver is not going to be driver often they can be added as a part time driver and that will help save money. Again the insurance company is not going to ask the parent this information. It must be reported to the insurance provider in order to get the savings. While teen drivers are more likely to get into accidents not all teen drivers a risk. Many are safe and responsible when they get behind the wheel. Driving discounts will come when the teen gets older and has more experience on the road.
