If your life was quite laid back and sedentary and now you've decided to do something about it by gaining muscle and losing fat then we have some words of caution. When starting from scratch you'll want go get into things slowly, rather than quickly. Getting a new diet and doing a full exercise program really quickly will probably end in disaster. Indeed, some people are able to just knuckle down and get on with things. But most people trying to do this all in one go will have a very hard time. So the best advice we can give is that you slowly ease in your dietary and exercise changes.

What you must do is reduce your calorie intake so that there is a deficit. This can be done rather effectively, however you should keep your fat and protein intake the same. Yup, instead we shall be cutting the carbohydrates.

However totally removing them from your diet isn't needed. Another reason to not get rid of carbs altogether is that getting all of your calories from just fats and proteins is rather difficult. You will be rather shocked at how much weight you can lose when you simply reduce your intake of carbs.

Often people think they should cut out fat from their diet by avoiding food containing high amounts of fat. We agree that you cannot swing in the opposite direction and eat all the high fat food you want. But you shouldn't completely wipe out fat from your diet, just reduce the amount of fatty foods you eat. The reason for this is to do with the principle of starvation. Because it is being deprived of it, it will store it and conserve it so it can be used when it doesn't get more. If you take all the fat out of your diet, the small amount you do get will all be stored.

If you are knowledgeable about dietary matters, then you may know to avoid too many carbohydrates of the complex type. But if not then knowing they will be converted into fat if there is a surplus is important to know. We do need them, so eating them is perfectly fine but over eating them isn't. So if your goal is to drop some fat, then eating less foods containing starch will be needed, but you must still eat protein and fat. If you do this as well as doing regular workouts you'll see some wonderful results. There are certainly a good number of methods that are flexible when you want to maintain muscle and burn fat. This is great, as you have a few different choices to pick from when you're trying to attain your goal.
