    Marcus Buchecha Almeida was born January 8th, 1990 in sao Vicente, Brazil. As a youngster he preferred to play football (soccer) however, as he willingly admits, he was not very excellent. Quickly after he took to surfing, starting at a young age. It wasn't until his mid-teens that that he uncovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and it was his sister and his dad who introduced him to it.

    Marcus's father, Cleiton Almeida, was a very protective father. When Marcus's sister started Jiu Jitsu training, her dad began attending class with her. Mr. Almeida quickly started training as well, and it wasn't long until Mr. Almeida had his 14 year old son Marcus Buchecha Almeida going to class too. The young boy rapidly fell for the sport and he started to train in Jiu Jitsu as frequently as he could.

    Under the watchful eye of his instructor, Redrigo Cavoca, a world champion Jiu Jitsu fighter himself, Marcus started to master the art of Jiu Jitsu, and rapidly became an unstoppable force in the lower belt divisions. Quickly after he started winning triumphes at Pan Ams, Sao Paoulo Cup and many, many more. In 2010, while on the podium for winning the World Championship, Marcus Buchecha Almeida obtained his black belt. Later on that year he moved to the United States with his master Redigo Cavoca, and his colleague Thiago 'Baiano' Aragao, where he won the World Nogi Tournament.

    In 2011 he returned to Sao Paulo with Cavaca to proceed his training. He has continued to battle since revisiting Sao Paulo, Brazil and in just the past 2 years alone he has actually won 7 championship golds, 3 silvers, and 2 bronzes. Since 2011 he has actually fought in 4 Championships: The World Championship (2011 and 2012), Nogi World Championship (2011 and 2012), Pan American Championship (2011 and 2012), and the World Cup (2011). He is a member of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu group Checkmat, which was established in 2008. Checkmat was established by 2 brothers, Leonardo and Ricardo Vieira after they broke away from their original team, 'Brasa'. Generally, Marcus Buchecha Almeida has won a total 25 championships.

    Today Marcus is the current World Heavyweight and Absolute Champion, in addition to the existing Pan American Heavyweight and Absolute Champion. Beyond proceeding to win gold medals, Marcus Buchecha Almeida even instructs seminars on his cherished drills, moves, training, and answers questions.
