Heavenly Mountain Resort Blog » Blog Archive » Reno Ranked Among Top 50 Adventure Towns - 0 views

  • The September 2008 edition of National Geographic Adventure hit news stands this week. The big news is that Reno, Nevada was including in the magazine’s “50 Next Great Adventure Towns”. Reno’s new $1.5 water park, refurbished downtown, abundance of hospitality jobs and close proximity to Tahoe are mentioned as highlights that will keep people around. The town’s logo, “America’s Adventure Place”, is supported by this rank. It’s nice to know that the city closest to South Lake Tahoe is such a desireable adventure destination.

      This is totally cool
  • This is very encouraging, and will hopefully put a little pressure on the city to provide better bicycling infrastructure.  We’re off to a good start, but much more needs to be done.

Update on Petersen Mountain/Evans Ranch Development « Weethump - 0 views

  • If approved by City Council, this high-density development will have many negative effects on our community:
  • The density of the proposed Evans Ranch development will change our quality of life forever.
  • WHAT YOU CAN DO: PLEASE take a moment to tell the Reno City Council that you are concerned about the impact of Evans Ranch, and that you oppose the plan. If you would like to attend the hearing at which this will be decided, please join us at City Hall, 1. East 1st Street, at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9. Or, you can email Lynnette Jones, Reno City Clerk, at jonesl@ci.reno.nv.us or send a letter to the City Clerk at PO Box 7, Reno, NV 89504. PLEASE SEND YOUR EMAILS AND LETTERS BY FRIDAY, APRIL 4! Your note to City Council can be very short, and can just say that you have concerns and so you oppose the Evans Ranch proposal.

We wanted to alert you to concerns about the environmental and recreational impacts of the proposed Evans Ranch development on Reno residents who care about wildlife, public lands, outdoor recreation, and the environmental impacts of sprawl. Evans Ranch is a huge development of 5,556 homes that has been proposed for the area between Red Rock Road and Petersen Mountain, which is currently only zoned for 40 homes.

Once the World's Great Factory, China Is the Next Great Innovator - 0 views

  • Even China's notorious environmental meltdown has an upside: It's both a sharp spur to innovation and the driver of a huge homegrown market for green technologies. The country will soon be the number one maker of windmills and solar cells. Broad Air Conditioning is the global leader in super-efficient cooling systems that can be powered by waste heat — an unmistakable growth opportunity in a power-short, warming world. Shenzhen-based BYD Company, a leading manufacturer of rechargeable batteries, showed up at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year with a slick plug-in hybrid sedan, scheduled to roll out of Chinese showrooms in time for the summer Olympics.
