In this country alone, around 250,000 properties are damaged each year because of pipes freezing and bursting. Once this occurs, water often pours into the structure, leaving destruction and damage in it's wake. This not only transpires in residences, but in churches, schools, and other structures. These pipes, which are usually made out of PVC plastic or copper, can pour as much as 250 gallons of water from a crack no wider than one eighth of an inch in 24 hours. That's a lot of water...and a lot of cash when it comes to the destruction it can cause.

When a pipe bursts, and the water floods into the structure where the pipe is placed, the problems can go beyond just the obvious water damage. If the mess is not cleaned promptly, mold can become an issue as well. Although we frequently hear of house fires, data show that homeowners are five times more probable to file claims for damages triggered by busted water pipes than by fire. Water damage can undermine a foundation, and the floor joints of a structure can also begin to deteriorate. If a pipe bursts in a house while the owner is at work, it can be several hours before the issue is discovered. Meanwhile the damage caused could mean that drywall, carpets, flooring, insulation, and more will have to be changed. This type of setback could become quite costly.

Knowing this, it makes more sense to try and avert a busted pipe from happening in the first place. Insulating the pipes where there is a threat of this happening can help to prevent such a catastrophe. Any pipes located in the crawl space under the structure or in the attic above should particularly be taken notice of. These should be wrapped up or protected well with heat tape or pipe sleeves. This will allow the stress to be relieved and could avert bursting of the pipes.

If you do learn that you may have a busted pipe, there are a few essential steps to take. First of all, shut the water off without delay. If there is standing water from a leak, turn off the electrical power to the effected area as well. Even if your pipes are frozen but may not have burst, don't take chances. Once the water and power is turned off, call a plumber. You should never use any type of torch or open flame to melt a pipe. Some use a blow dryer or heating pad, however do not use ANY type of electrical tool if there is standing water from a leak! Again, it is best to call a specialist to prevent any further damages, and to clean any mess as quickly as possible. If the water is not completely removed from the home, mold damage is a very real hazard.

It is a good idea to look for a plumbing expert who is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These will be the experts always ready to come and help in case of emergency. They can fix your busted pipe and help clean the mess without delay. The plumber will also be able to advise you on restitution professionals, if needed. coquitlam plumber, coquitlam plumbing, coquitlam plumbing
