The Myth of Multitasking - sitepoint.com - 0 views

  • When multitaskers are in situations where there are multiple sources of information coming from the external world or emerging out of memory, they’re not able to filter out what’s not relevant to their current goal. That failure to filter means they’re slowed down by that irrelevant information.
  • We kept looking for what they’re better at, and we didn’t find it.
  • They couldn’t help thinking about the task they weren’t doing. The high multitaskers are always drawing from all the information in front of them. They can’t keep things separate in their minds.

  • Multitaskers are suckers for irrelevancy. Everything distracts them.

forum.yubico.com * View topic - Facebook OpenID implementation troubles - 0 views

  • I found a way to make this work.

The yubico webpage that asks for the "name you wish to use" has the idSelect tag outside of the form tags. They should really fix that, BUT while on the page, if you view source, copy the source of that page into a new local html page, move the tag, <input type="text" name="idSelect" />, into the <form></form> tags, change the URL to your local file, put your key id into that field and then enter your yubikey, the process WILL work!
  • Of course, now Facebook validates my OpenID server but doesn't recognize the cookies..

Skype Prime - skype.com/allfeatures/skypeprime - 0 views

  • There's a wide range of advisors on offer in the Prime Directory. You can search for them by keyword or browse topic categories. Learn French from a teacher in Paris, get insider tips on the best-kept sightseeing secrets from a real life Londoner before you travel, or even learn tango direct from a dance studio in Argentina.
  • Skype is free to use, but because Skype Prime advisors are offering a service, they charge for calls at a rate you agree with them. All Prime calls start free, and charging doesn't begin until you've given your OK, so you can try out any advisor risk-free.
  • If you are a recognised expert and/or qualified in a particular field, you could make money as a Skype Prime advisor. Visit the Advisors' Guide to find out more.

Copyright notice example - The Life Series ~ David Attenborough Image Gallery - 0 views

Good example where the photographers should use a short website URL in the copyright notice. Each of the photos in the gallery have an unpractical copyright notice in the photo.

Instead of "(c) Myname", get the "myname.com" domain name or the like, and use "(c) [year] Myname.com". That way, when the photograph is downloaded, distributed and later viewed, anyone can go straight to the photographers web site to ask permission to use it, or to purchase a permission.

Faq - How is Identi.ca different from Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Plurk, etc? - 0 views

  • Identi.ca is an Open Network Service. Our main
goal is to provide a fair and transparent service that preserves users' autonomy. In
particular, all the software used for Identi.ca is Free Software, and all the data is available
under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, making it Open Data.

The software also implements the OpenMicroBlogging protocol, meaning that you can have friends on other microblogging services
    that can receive your notices.

The goal here is autonomy -- you deserve the right to manage your own on-line
presence. If you don't like how Identi.ca works, you can take your data and the source code and set up your own server (or move your account to another one).

Integrate Skype IM into Pidgin - 0 views

  • Skype API Plugin, an early attempt at getting Skype's instant messaging features working in Pidgin (or Adium for OS X users). The good news: It's relatively easy to install and actually works. The bad news: Voice calls can't be made from Pidgin, and you have to keep the Skype application running in the background (which you might do anyways to make and receive calls).
