Galveston Island in Texas has gone through many changes since Hurricane Ike made landfall on September 13th 2008. Beach erosion is among the many things that have been greatly affected by the massive destruction and devastation that Ike caused. The beautiful Galveston beaches along the seawall that residents, business owners and tourist have come to love have been vanishing. The storm surge and strong tides that accompanied Hurricane Ike took much of the sand out to the gulf. Estimates up to fifty and sixty feet of beach erosion in some areas have been reported. Due to this latest erosion according to the Texas General Land Office, an emergency restoration project was needed.

Wild, surreal, enchanting, the Big Island's green sand beaches are a rare geologic occurrence that appears in only a few choice spots on our island and almost nowhere else in the world. Although they take a little effort to get to, you should not travel all the way to Hawaii and not see these jewel-like beaches. The green sand is composed almost entirely of the mineral olivine, or peridot as the gem quality crystals are known. These crystals precipitate out of the molten lava while it sits in the magma chamber reservoir before it erupts onto the surface. The liquid lava is melted from rocks at great depth within the earth the chemical composition of the melt is at equilibrium at extremely high pressures and temperatures. As the magma migrates upward, many miles, through the Earth's crust, it cools and pressure decreases this causes crystals to precipitate to form in the melt. In magmas world wide, olivine is almost always observed to precipitate out first. Hawaii lavas migrate up to the surface so quickly, and then are expelled from the magma chamber onto the surface so quickly, that they have little time for many crystals to form. But when lava does sit in the magma chamber awhile, the olivine crystals do precipitate, and they slowly settle to the bottom of the melt.

Glue down Flooring In residential installations, most flooring that is engineered is either click together or tongue and grove. It is an acceptable way to install but I find that it is terrible to rip out years later. Either glue it together or click it together but don't glue it down to the subfloor unless you have a very specific reason to. Stapling down your engineered floor will just lead to squeaks and creeks that will drive you nuts. Pull out the instructions that you threw in the garbage and look up the manufacture's installation methods, then go file the instructions with your purchase receipt for future reference. Nail Down Flooring A very common mistake we have seen in solid flooring installations is proper nail length, gauge of the nail, and spacing between nails. Natural Product Variations One of the inherent beauties of hardwood is the differences between boards and how much or little they accept stain. No two pieces will ever be alike and that is one thing that makes wood flooring so luxurious and realistic compared to laminate flooring. Pay careful attention to the layout and selecting the color and grain of each board when you are working with the product.

Alkaline properties in the cleaners can sometimes have an adverse affect on wool and silk. Stains on synthetic fiber floor rugs can usually be spot cleaned with some good success. Follow all usage and dilution guidelines carefully in order to prevent causing any further damage to your area rug. Have the vacuum on standby - To keep your investment in top notch condition, always have your vacuum somewhere close by as the first line of defense. To extend the life of your floor rugs, try vacuuming regularly so as to keep dry dirt and soils from building up which can cause premature wear. As people walk on your rugs, sand and dirt can act like little knives and cut away at the fibers. Your floor rug will wear a lot faster due to how abrasive sand and dirt can be. Your first and best line of defense to keeping your rugs in great condition is vacuuming. Steam Clean for tough areas - Always test a small area of your floor rug if you choose to steam clean your rug yourself to make sure that you are getting the results you want.

It allows homeowners to choose the exact shade or finish they want, rather than choosing from one of the options in an already finished product. Wood Floor Sanding & Wood Floor Restoration
