European Bank Resists Rush to Print Money - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • Oluwamuyiwa Abolarin

This article shows that the European bank seems to follow a demand-side policy on dealing with the economic situation. They are lowering interest rates so that the demand to borrow will rise and therefore, the revenue will rise and we'll find a way out of this recession. They are attempting expansionary policies of their own to increase demand. Their main issue is that they might be losing their consumers to other markets because of the issues concerning the exchange rate.

This article discusses about "the modernist box that won this year's Solar Decathlon, a contest for solar-powered houses sponsored by America's Department of Energy, had solar panels of the conventional, crystalline sort on its roof. But the walls were covered in solar cells made with thin coatings of silicon and other materials in the place of expensive slices of crystal. Thin film, as this technology is known, is still less popular than crystalline cells and its move to the mainstream has been a year or two away for a decade. But its time may have come at last."

It also introduces of development, how important fo economies to keep delievering improved standards of living and a lot of the economics we or they cover looks at policies to achieve higher growth. In this extract, (I'm not sure if I have understood it right,) it definds the occurs where there is an increase in the productive potential of the economy and is best measured by the increase in a country's real level of output over a period of time. For instance, the increase in real Gross Product.

This article discusses about unemployment. That the representative Barney Frank claimed that he will 'give loans to unemployed homeowners who are struggling to pay the mortgage.' Because of the reason why so many people do not have jobs or experienced failure of their job, the representative is willing to seek for mortgage aid. It is not said in the article but in my opinion, if more people are employed the country and the industry's economy will grow.

  • Celine F

It is a good sign that the rates of inflation are rising in the UK. Mortgagte interest rates and housing costs rose. A reason for this inflation is "...mainly because fuel prices fell by a lot less than they did in the same period a year ago." The inflation rates were expected to rise, so the people were expecting this. There are also controls regulate the inflation, "The committee sets interest rates which are the main policy tool available to control inflation."

This article relates to how the CPI (Consumer Prices Index) has risen in the past couple of months. However, it is implied that such a rise is not severe, and will not need to be reported to the chancellor. This is expected to be a "temporary spike", and it is unlikely that it will continue or grow for any extensive length of time.

Dubai debt difficulties hammer stocks | Reuters - 0 views

Dubai's financial market was struck hard this past Thursday. Certain types of goods, such as gold, were at record high but the stocks hit worst daily losses and the dollar value was driven higher. As the article days, "Gold climbed to a new record high but fell back as the dollar rose" this means inflation. With the recession and inflation, Dubai is not getting any outside income. Dubai's economist will have to re-evaluate plans to improve the economic slump.
