Nice was in actual fact built by the Greeks, prior to being colonised by the Romans, and reminders of this long gone heritage are obvious all over the place. For many years, the super rich have partied in Nice, however, there is loads to discover and do for the simple mortals too. A superb climate throughout the year delivers tourists in their thousands, and the city deals very well with the constant influx and departure of people. Nice is a fantastic location to carry out a spot of movie star spotting, with lots of the international A-list stars staying regularly. Of course, with the little village of Cannes merely Fifteen miles away, and the world renowned movie event each and every May, you will be just about certain to find plenty of your favourites if you come to Nice that time. Stepping back in history, famous past inhabitants include F Scott Fitzgerald and Henri Matisse, and there is to this day a dynamic art scene in Nice.

The famous centre of the city is Old Nice, a labyrinth of narrow roads opening on to hundrds of squares. Invest some time ambling around this beautiful part of Nice and you will encounter an authentic experience of times long gone. The primary spot to be seen is at the Promenade des Anglais, which runs right along the seafront. Built in the 1830's with English colonial money, the Promenade has grown to be a primary Nice road with stores, cafes, bars and museums and galleries, along with some very grand hotels such as the Negresco.

High up in the slopes looking over the bay is the truly popular location of Cimiez. There is an old monastery, Notre Dame de Cimiez, that is a good way to glimpse back through history, and further down the hillside you will find Les Arenes, the remains of an old Roman settlement. Towards the bottom of the Cimiez hillsides you will find a few marvelous museums, If you happen to be an art lover then a day at the Musee Chagall is essential. It includes a superb selection of Marc Chagall's paintings, drawings ,sculpture, stained glass and private artefacts of the great man. A further wonderful collection can be found in the Musee Matisse, almost next door to the Musee Chagall. There are lots of additional museums and galleries throughout the heart of Nice for example the Musee d'Art Moderne which includes works by Andy Warhol along with loads more.

The Nice Carnival is a stunning occasion in Nice's diary every single year. It culminates in the spectacular Battle of the Flowers along with a great fireworks show. In case you are fortunate enough to be in or around Nice in the course of Carnival time, you can rate yourself fortunate as the entire place honestly becomes a party. An alternative well-known spot for visitors to see is the Cours Saleya Flower Market. This spectacular Plaza is buzzing with restaurants, shops and flower stalls and is a great destination to spend a few hours. You will find a substantial pedestrian section in Nice, and this is where the vast majority of serious purchasing tourists can have their fun. You may have to bring your charge cards though given that Nice is a lot of things, but cheap is not one of them. Nice car rental, pronto car hire in Nice, Nice car rental
