What Do We Know About the New Literacies? Any realistic analysis of what we know about the new literacies from the traditional research literature must recognize that we actually know very little. Intuitively, it is easy to recognize that new technologies such as those used for e-mail, web browsing, video-conferencing, multimedia composing, or media viewing require new forms of literacy.

Defining New Literacies in Curricular Practice Teaching literacy to children today involves teaching both "traditional" literacy and how to read and produce the kinds of texts typical of the emerging information and multimedia age.
