    Italian is one of the most popular romance languages; it derives a sense of eroticism and romance. Italian is featured in many Operas and other musical genres as well as the food industry. Italian cuisine is stunningly popular with the names of dishes dripping with Italian dialect. For this reason and many others, Italian is a favorite language to learn, it brings generations of families together. There are many ways to learn a language, total immersion is one or language learning software like, Rocket Italian, is another. No matter the vehicle for learning Italian, the end result is magnifico.

    The Language

    Italian is spoken throughout the world. It is the native tongue for about 65 million people spanning almost all continents. It is the national language for many European countries including Italy and one of the four national languages for Switzerland. Italian has a long debated history, deriving from Latin. Many scholarly debates have turned Italian into the lyrical romantic language it is today.

    Linguistics

    The Renaissance was a turning point for many of the humanities. Art, philosophy, and linguistics. During the Renaissance Italian was being used in every state throughout the country in the courts. At this time there was a rediscovery of Dante's De vulgari eloquentia. This reclaiming instilled a debate among scholars as to what the best version of Italian would be like.

    Debate

    The debate regarding the Italian language that began with Renaissance divided scholars into different schools of thought. There were the purists, the Florentines, and the courtiers. There was also a fourth faction that believed the best Italian was that adopted by the papal courts.

    Classical Italian

    Pietro Bembo who hailed from Venice led the purist school of thought. He argued that the best form of the Italian language was that of the great classics. These classics included Petrarch and sections of Boccaccio. Some considered The Divine Comedy a classic; however the purists looked down upon it as it did not display the lyrical Italian that they were trying to promote.

    Other Schools Of Thought

    Niccolo Machiavelli was of the Florentine faction. He and other Florentines believed that the Italian that was spoken by the common people in their own time was the best version of Italian. The courtiers believed that each local dialect should contribute to the new standard. The purists eventually won out over the Florentines and the courtiers.

    Accademia Della Crusca

    The purist's ideas prevailed over the others and this lead to the formation of the Accademia Della Crusca in Florence. This was established in 1582-1583. This was known as the official legislative body of the Italian language. The academia della cursca is responsible for the publication of Agnolo Monosini's Latin Tome, Floris italicae linguae libri novem in 1604. This publication was then followed by the first ever Italian dictionary in 1612.

    There was much debate during the time of the Renaissance regarding the Italian language and how it should be spoken. Unfortunately back then they didn't have language programs for learning languages like rocket Italian or Rocket German review. The different schools of thought fought and debated the best modern Italian and instilled one of the greatest romance languages in the world.
