Photography can be one of the hardest art forms to master as it requires both natural ability coupled with a lot of hard work. You do not have to be a natural photographer, but you have to learn some essential things about taking photos.

Focus your shot and make sure the subject is off center. When a subject is in the center, it is very mundane and not fun to look at. Off-center your subjects to enhance the appearance of your images and make them more appealing to viewers.

Your photographs can be varied by changing the angle you take it from. Anyone can quickly snap a picture of a scene head-on. Instead, try a shot looking down on the scene or looking up at the subject from ground level. Consider turning the camera ninety degrees, or to a diagonal angle, to put the subject in a more interesting context.

Make sure your subject is in focus before you take important shots. Some have a natural knack for composing beautiful pictures, but other people have to make an effort. For example, where to place your subject in the photo will change based on the story you wish to tell.

To get the best shots in dim or dark situations, you need to decrease your camera's f-stop, or aperture setting. When this is done, your aperture opens to its maximum extent to let as much light enter as possible.

It is best practice holding your camera level with the person's eyes when photographing them. This makes the photo feel more lively and helps people relate to it. In order to follow this tip to it's fullest, this requires getting quite low to the ground when taking pictures of kids.

You are allowed to move around the subject to find an interesting shot. Take your photos from all different angles to get different effects.

Keep your camera settings simple. Take it one step at a time by mastering one function, such as shutter speed or sport setting, before moving on to the next. This will let you focus on the picture you are trying to capture, instead of wasting time messing around with your camera while your subjects walk away.

Are you looking for that perfect photo that requires your subjects to have raindrops on them? Just create a little rain yourself. Carry around a spray bottle, and mist the subjects up a little to get the right effect.

Don't fall into the habit of taking all of your photographs with the camera in its standard horizontal position. Snap a picture by turning your camera vertically, and you may be surprised at the results. You can experiment with your zoom for close up full effect and far out inclusive pictures.

The above tips show a few different ways that you can capture a scene with the power of photography. You'll need to practice often and learn as much as you can, but you'll appreciate the results your hard work brings in the end!
