  Day 11.
  
  Today on your South Island Showcase New Zealand itinerary you are free to explore Franz Josef (together with nearby Fox Glacier). Types of options for guided tours, helicopter flights etc. The heli flight and landing on the top of the glacier is highly recommended (if a small expensive).
  
  If you are looking for something a little much more sedate, a walk on the face of Franz Josef Glacier may be more to your liking. Make sure that you take a comfortable pair of shoes as the walk takes around 1. 5 hours return in the carpark.
  
  Fox Glacier is also nearby.
  
  Day 12.
  
  Today's drive takes you along the west coast to your small village of Haast, then inland to your lovely lakeside township associated with Wanaka. Wanaka is a highlight of your New Zealand itinerary. Wanaka is actually, in many ways, much like Queenstown. It sits over the banks of a lovely lake, Lake Wanaka, and is a base for the two world class skifields, Cardrona together with Treble Cone. Wanaka feels somewhat more relaxed than Queenstown, and also the layout of the town centre seems less cluttered. Dining options abound over the lake front, and give you the perfect setting for a relaxing coffee.
  
  There's plenty to see together with do in Wanaka, with attractions like Puzzling Environment, the historic Cardrona pub, trout fishing, and 4wd tours to mention a few.
  
  Wanaka provides many accommodation options, but a lake view is worthy the extra money but if the budget allows.
  
  Day 13.
  
  Today takes us to Queenstown, that "Adventure Capital" of New Zealand. There are a few roads from Wanaka to Queenstown. The road as a result of Cromwell takes around 1. 5 a long time, and is fairly uninspiring as a result of New Zealand standards. A lot better to take the shorter (1 hour) drive via Cardrona, above the Crown Range. The views are stunning, and the road is claimed to become the highest main road in the united states. If you have time period, stop off at your historic Cardrona hotel for morning tea or lunch or dinner.
  
  Days 17 & 15.
  
  Queenstown is among the most highlights of your South Island Showcase New Zealand plans.
  
  Well, where to start with Queenstown! This is one of my favourite New Zealand spots. Set on the coast line of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown offers something for everyone. You can do only a small amount, or as much as you like.
  
  A "must do" can be a trip to Milford Sound. The trip from Queenstown is around 4 hours each approach, which makes for a very long and tiring day if you ever drive yourself. Much advisable take an organised coach tour, or bus the best way and fly the other (flights are very much dependent on climate). Milford Sound may be described as the eighth Wonder of the World, and is New Zealand's most favored tourist attraction.
  
  Other things at the top of the "Queenstown list" undoubtedly are a trip on the Gondola to help Bob's peak, a cruise on lake Wakatipu to the old steamer TSS Earnslaw, an exciting jet boat ride, or perhaps a bungy jump.
