VoIP gateways are a variety of VoIP equipment that uses VoIP technology to convert analog words streams to digital voice packets. Voice over IP gateways screen TDM networks (PSTN), traditional telephones and PBX solutions with Ethernet dependent networks.

This allows companies to IP permit a legacy PBX system, connect existing telephones for a new VoIP system and or make calls with the PSTN using a VoIP phone process.

To accomplish these functions there exists a variety of several VoIP gateways.

Analog Words over Internet Method Gateways

Analog VoIP gateways come in two different configurations, FXS and FXO.

    • FXS Gateways - FXS (Foreign exchange Station) gateways are primarily used to connect traditional telephones to your VoIP system. Through an FXS gateway the standard telephones plug in the FXS ports, while the gateway's Ethernet vent connects it to the network (which the VoIP system is also connected to).

    • FXO Gateways - FXO (Currency trading Station) gateways are primarily used to connect a VoIP process to POTS (Plain old Telephone Service) marks. With an FXO gateway the POTS lines plug into the FXO ports, while the gateway's Ethernet port connects it to your network (the fact that VoIP system is also connected to).

Analog IP gateways can be found in a number associated with configurations, from several ports to 48 ports. There are generally even combo analog VoIP gateways which feature both FXS and FXO ports.

    Electronic digital VoIP Gateways

Digital Voice over IP gateways are available in four different designs, T1, E1, J1 and BRI.

    • T1 Gateways - T1 Gateways are used primarily in North america.

    • E1 Gateways - E1 Gateways are used in Europe and a lot of other parts of the world (except The united states and Japan).

    • J1 Gateways : J1 gateways are utilized in Japan.

    • BRI Gateways : BRI gateways are used with ISDN product.

Electronic digital IP gateways are available in a number associated with channel configurations, from a single channel to 32 channels. Electronic digital IP gateways typically ship in combo T1/E1 or T1/E1/J1 options.
