Right after releasing two acclaimed albums in the mid-2000s, the members of Brooklyn-based indie rock ensemble Clap Your Hands Say Yeah took a break. Frontman Alec Ounsworth used the hiatus to explore his burgeoning attraction to New Orleans.

In the summer time of 2009, he recorded a solo album, Mo Beauty, at Piety Street Studio in Bywater with a cast of neighborhood musicians that included drummer Stanton Moore, bassist George Porter Jr. and keyboardist Robert Walter.
A song from that session, Dr. So and So, a double-time country/gospel romp featuring Al Carnival Time Johnson and John Boutte, turned up on Dear New Orleans, a 31-song, digital benefit album released in 2010. Experience the New Orleans Swamp Tour
Ounsworth has because gone back to the enterprise of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The group released the generally eclectic Hysterical, its 1st complete-length album in much more than three years, in 2011.
