Google Chrome Extensions: Diigo bookmarks - 4 views

It helps you save bookmarks to diigo with one click. Diigo also saves a copy of the page

While I appreciate that Diigo had an extension out on day one, it leaves a LOT to be desired. I installed the extension, but have it disabled and will stick with the diigolet. I hope that development is proceeding to bring more than the most barebones functionality to Chrome's extension.

Thing 13 Diigo vs Delicious | Learning with Technology - 7 views

  • First, the option to look up people in different ways such as their real name, user name or how they tagged something allows for better networking.  I also am very impressed with the idea of lists.  Although, I am still trying to figure out how to implement them, I am excited that this would be a great tool for the classroom use for research and or sharing.  In addition, I have just spent hours trying to figure out the snapshot feature.  I think I will break down and watch a tutorial.  However, I truly like to try to figure things out on my own. It seems to me I am just hitting the surface of Diigo.  Delicious does not seem to have as many bells and whistles.
  • I have always liked Social Bookmarking.  I wish we could get more teachers to network and therefore share tags.  If you had a set of tags that were standard, you could easily create websites that coincided with curriculum, standards and which time of year they were for.   Social Bookmarking is a great way to collaborate and find some great treasures.

Service I'm Thankful For: Diigo - 3 views

  • There aren’t many tech products I would consider myself dedicated to. I change browsers at least weekly, keep at least one Mac, one Windows machine and one Linux PC around at all times and a two-year cell phone commitment can seem like a prison sentence by month six.

I’m also not the kind of guy who gives glowing reviews, everything is usually tempered with a mix of good and bad, an attempt to find balance and deeper understanding.

But there is at least one service that I am truly grateful for, Diigo.

You see, when most people think of social bookmarking, they think of Delicious due to its popularity. However, for me and my specific needs, Diigo has been a savior, providing a much-needed service that’s simple, reliable and attractive.

If I’m going to rave about any service I use, Diigo would be it and as the U.S. celebrates Thanksgiving, I want to celebrate one of my favorite tech services and how much it has helped me.

Still Learning: Next Installment on Diigo - 3 views

  • Our work started out well. We read in class a section of Antigone, and that night, they annotated spots where they saw characters developing moral dilemmas (these dilemmas are our entry point into the play -- we will eventually write compare/contrast essays on modern moral dilemmas and what we can learn from ancient dilemmas -- more on that later!). Here is an example of one of their comment threads (with their typos and all!) on this quote from Antigone to Ismene, "Yes, I'll do my duty to my brother -- / and your as well, if you're not prepared to. / I won't be caught betraying him.
  • This is only one example of many where they read each other's ideas and built their own thoughts on them. I was thrilled. We started class the next day just skimming the play -- I asked them to notice who had a moral dilemma so far just by looking at where the annotations were. They could SEE that every character so far had some kind of dilemma. We were on a roll ...

I started using queri.ac not so long ago, was a yubnub.org fan, and still am a BIG fan, but the fact that all the commands you create must be public and that you can't delete them makes me very prudent.
With queri.ac I can create as many as I want and keep them private (eg.: in case I've made a stupid mistake)

PS: I still use yubnub though queriac (eg: like this one tr2 =)
... because yubnub is YUBNUB! The 1st and copied

Diigo - Powerful Online Research Tool - 1 views

  • If the Internet is your main medium for research, I believe that you know the importance of bookmarking and sharing your findings with colleagues to get the best information possible. Therefore, an online research tool will be very helpful in organizing gathered information while at the same time making it available to others for collaborative purposes. Diigo - a powerful online research tool fits perfectly for this need.
  • Diigo is a browser plugin that functions as a web highlighter, sticky notes, social bookmarking tool, and a social information network rolled into one. Once you have download and install the Diigo toolbar, you can start bookmarking websites, highlighting texts inside it, leaving comments and more.
  • Diigo is a browser plugin
    that functions as a

    web highlighter,

    sticky
    notes

, social bookmarking tool, and a social
    information network rolled into one

    .
  • ...12 more annotations...
  • Next, the knowledge sharing part of Diigo lets you share and discuss your findings with any available public or private groups. With Diigo, connecting with friends with similar interests can be done effortlessly through content sharing.
  • Features of Diigo

As a personal research tool, you can use Diigo to,

    • Bookmark, highlight texts and add sticky notes to any websites that you want. All changes are persistent - that means you can see the same highlighted texts when you are browsing through the same page again.
  • highlight-and-add-comments-on-diigo
    • Group a web page with tags and lists.
    • Access all your research anywhere because all your bookmarks are stored online.
    • Search for a bookmark by a full text search, sticky notes, tags and more.
    • Share your research with others in multiple ways - send to blog, linkrolls, tagrolls, by email, post to other social bookmarking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, etc.
    • Automatically post findings to your blog with all the comments, highlights, etc.
    • Easily find the most popular content on Diigo to stay up to date with the hottest news.
    • Get recommended content based on your activities in Diigo.
    • Get related content while browsing the Internet - I recently stumbled a website with loads of useful comments from Diigo’s users.
    • Import bookmarks from other social bookmarking sites to Diigo.
    • The “Save Elsewhere ” feature allows you to simultaneously bookmark sites to Del.ico.us, Simpy or Ma.gnolia.
  • As a collaborative research platform, you can use Diigo to,

    • Join or create a private or public group to share and collaborate with people of the same interests.
    • Add private sticky notes that are visible to only members of the same group. This creates a platform for instant discussion (or debate!)
  • groups-in-diigo
    • Group tag - to enforce tagging consistency within a group, the group admin can set a list of recommended tags to be used by other team members.
    • Get recommended news from your Diigo’s friends - from Diigo’s sidebar, you can also see who is currently reading the same page too!
  • diigo-users-reading-the-same-content
  • Extract comments / notes by other users on a website.
  • extract-notes-with-diigo
  • After testing Diigo for a while, I love the fact that Diigo maintains all the annotations and comments that I’ve previously left on a web page, which speeds up future revisions on all of my previous findings. Furthermore, there are many specific public groups to join that will definitely help to expand my knowledge.
  • Diigo, in my opinion, is not only an online research tool; it is a living knowledge sharing community.
