Has the "about" link been removed?

Comments:

Hi!

In older diigo versions we have the "about" link near every bookmark but I didn't find it in this new version of diigo.

Has been removed for a particular reason?

This is the link that I am looking for near every bookmark http://about.diigo.com - Lamarck Jean

Can't see it either... So I added it to Yubnub.

An other thing I miss is the "most bookmarked sites" on profile pages.
That section enabled me to quickly see if the person is doing self promotion or spamming - to find out if I should accept him/her in my group.

-------------------
About Yubnub:

If you don't know about Yubnub, it worth checking it out.
Gains time and is my preferred search engine! Love it - such a smart idea! =D

There are several Diigo Yubnub commands http://yubnub.org/kernel/ls?args=diigo

To use, just add Yubnub open search - In Firefox just click in the searchbox menu Add "Yubnub search" http://yubnub.org/documentation/describe_installation
and when you want to see an about page:

enter: dabout URL (eg.: dabout http://google.com)

If you want to bookmark a page, enter: diiadd URL

If want to search...

Diigo, enter: diigo keyword

Your Diigo Library, enter: mydiigo keyword

Google, enter: g keyword

Yahoo, enter: y keyword

Wikipedia, enter: wiki keyword

If you want to find a command to search, for example bing.com. enter: ls bing.com

...etc.

The thing is, you have to remember each command ( that 'g' is for google... and all the others)

============================================
|
| UPDATE:
| Here's a set of Diigo bookmarklets , also the view the about page
|
============================================ - yuppi c

I don't understand many things, the older version has some problems and this new version has solved some of them but has created new problems and removed very usefull features.

I have a list of some features and interface changes that have gone to worst. I really don't understand what is the reason of this changes, if they are done consciusnes or perhaps a little lapsus.

Sorry for my english - Lamarck Jean

> Has the "about" link been removed?

> near every bookmark

Much of what was/is in Diigo About is represented in Diigo Meta.

In your library, and in the libraries of other individuals, the link to meta is:

* not alongside the bookmark

* buried in the Share menu

— (I find the burial, and the choice/name of menu, not good;
but that's a separate topic). - Graham Perrin

Examples, comparisons

http://about.diigo.com/about/chandlerproject.org%2F?
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fchandlerproject.org%2F?tab=people
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fchandlerproject.org%2F?tab=comment

http://about.diigo.com/about/www.google.com%2Fchrome?
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fchrome%2F?tab=people
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fchrome%2F?tab=comment

http://about.diigo.com/about/lists.oasis-open.org%2Farchives%2Fopendocument-users%2F200903%2Fmsg00009.html?
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Flists.oasis-open.org%2Farchives%2Fopendocument-users%2F200903%2Fmsg00009.html?tab=people
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Flists.oasis-open.org%2Farchives%2Fopendocument-users%2F200903%2Fmsg00009.html?tab=comment

Organisation/layout within Diigo Meta in Diigo 4.0 beta can become weird, for example
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Flists.oasis-open.org%2Farchives%2Fopendocument-users%2F200903%2Fmsg00009.html?tab=comment&uname=garyedwards presents one sticky note three times (one note four times, if you include the History tab) and my main gripe with the layout is that you must scroll down in a small space to bring those tabs into sight. - Graham Perrin

Tags: about, help, diigo, suggestion, meta

by: Lamarck Jean

Comments:

I have a request for joining one of my groups by a user named: "No-name "
URL name: "anonymous"
but when I click approve/disapprove - it does nothing.

Can't send a message either.

When creating an account, if you forget to input a name, you generally get an alert. So chances are, this person named himself "No-name / anonymous".

I understand that by choosing a user-name like that, your bound to get problems.

Maybe because I also have a member with the same name ??? o_0

... but still what can I do to interact with this person? - yuppi c

Tags: diigo, username, bug, diigo_website

by: yuppi c

When cross-posting to Delicious, use a short link for "Annotated Link"

Comments:

I know that Diigo can shorten annotated links. I suggest that when cross-posting to Delicious, the shortened link be exported into the Delicious description field, instead of the current long annotated link.

The way it is now, the link looks messy, and it's hard to read because of the URL encoding. In addition, since links aren't clickable in Delicious descriptions, a user will have to copy-and-paste the link text in order to open the annotated link page. This would be much easier if the link were shorter, and I think it would encourage more Delicious users to check out Diigo's features.

This is obviously not urgent, and I suggest it as a humble user and supporter of Diigo's activities. I think it's come up before in the forums, but a quick search did not turn it up.

Best wishes. I'm loving v4.

Nathan - Nathan Rein

I so very much wholeheartedly agree!!! Especially in the case of comments. If you only comment on a page, and you dont highlight or anything else, the interface is TOTALLY weird. If you open the annotated link that is automatically posted into the delicious description, it blinks for a second, and then it just goes directly to the original link of the bookmark. in this case, the annotated link is totally pointless and just messy looking.

I wish we had an option on whether to post the link at all in the delicious description. - Suzannah Porter

Tags: delicious, diigo, cross-posting, url, encoding, shortening, short, suggestion

by: Nathan Rein

Comments:

Is there any way, using Diigo, to search the entire site of bookmarked pages i.e. not just the saved pages, but the entire site that they come from? - Andrew Hawkins

You mean like add a link ' Search this site'?
Technically it would be impossible for Diigo to index all the external sites (unless they create their own web indexing bot)
So that would mean add a 'Search this site' link that links to Google/Yahoo/Bing.
Like the external tools on the About | Diigo pages?

You could use this Search this site bookmarklet after opening the link. - yuppi c

I think that about.diigo.com has been removed of diigo interface. Please add it again - Lamarck Jean

http://chiton.net16.net/pages/diigo-bookmarklets.html

On that site is a bookmarklet called Diigo-More that will pull up all the bookmarks from the site you are currently visiting. - Suzannah Porter

Thanks for the suggestions. I use the Google Toolbar to search the current site. What would be nice is to be able to search a bunch of related sites at the same time. You can do through various web sites. You have to set up a group of sites that you want to search i.e. create your own search enging e.g. http://www.google.com/cse/. I thought it would be a lot more convenient if you could somehow do it through Diigo. Oh well. - Andrew Hawkins

Tags: Search, diigo

by: Andrew Hawkins

Comments:

When I am on pages I have bookmarked, the icon color of the bookmarking icon used to change from white to red or pink. It no longer does. I use both Firefox 3.5.4 and Firefox Minefield 3.7a1pre. It doesn't change in either browser. I also have a StumbleUpon toolbar in the same row as the Diigo toolbar. Somewhere I read something about an "all in one toolbar" conflicting with Diigo and the buttons needing to be somewhere special. I took some away for aesthetic reasons and can screenshot it if that would help.

Thanks - Yoni Blumberg

Tags: diigo, toolbar, icon, red, pink, color, change

by: Yoni Blumberg

no icon on enhanced linkroll

Comments:

Hi
I have been trying to set up the MyDiigo linkroll on my WordPress blog. But altho I tick the icon box (cos I want it) the icon never shows up and neither do my bookmarks.
can someone help me please?
cheers
Jude - Jude Mellers

Tags: icon, linkroll, diigo

by: Jude Mellers

Customize bookmarking window?

Comments:

Is it possible that we could customize what options show in the toolbar bookmarking window? While I understand the importance of the legibility and utility concerns, I almost never share to a group yet often would like to add to multiple lists directly from the bookmarking window. If users could choose to get rid of some saving options and have others present it would be a more personalized and useful tool.

However, I recognize I am coming at this from a designers perspective without the prerequisite coding knowledge to know if this is "pie-in-sky" or practical... - Yoni Blumberg

First: imagine a streamlined bookmark dialogue.
Some mock-ups from a few months ago (long before Diigo 4) at
http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/586073#2

Then: imagine a personalised Diigo Meta view, for example
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fseedmagazine.com%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2Fdesign_and_the_elastic_mind?tab=comment&gname=viewtabs
but instead of focusing on the
Comments tab, your personalised meta focuses on a
Lists tab.

If a standard (or streamlined) bookmark dialogue could step
to a focused (meta) view of the bookmark — with ability to add to multiple lists — would that be good? - Graham Perrin

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying. By step do you mean change pages or transition or what? Either way, I think a simple line (link option or whatever) that said "Add to multiple lists) and then, when clicked, made your lists appear in the same bookmarking window with tickboxes next to all of them would be most useful...

But again, I don't know what you meant totally or how hard what I am suggesting would be - Yoni Blumberg

IMHO there's already too much in the bookmark dialogue
(e.g. http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/958937, unresolved http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/956828 and other topics) so the question is:

* if the per-user customisation is not in the bookmark dialogue
* then, where best to fit those customisations?

I imagine a server-side preference, set by the user (not a default) that allows a click on the Save button (within the bookmark dialogue) to step forward to a page that:

* focuses on the bookmark
* allows the user to do what they want with that bookmark
* has room for customisation.

In Diigo 4.0 beta: the only UI to a bookmark is Diigo Meta, so that page is a likely candidate.

> Add to multiple lists

I'll add a mock-up to http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/956252 , feel free to add your own mock-ups, the more the merrier :) - Graham Perrin

Tags: Diigo, bookmarking, customize, toolbar, bookmark, dialogue, suggestion

by: Yoni Blumberg

Customising search in toolbar

Comments:

I have toolbar 4.1.0.5 on Firefox 3.5.4. The customise search page shows my web search default preference to be Google UK (without Diigo). The actual search engines is 'Diigo+Google.com' both of which I emphatically do not want by default.

Did I maybe miss an instruction about this or is Diigo taking over my PC by stealth? Thanks in advance for any comments. - Fenman .

Diigo knows that Custom Search is broken and have put it in low priority and are even considering dropping it. It's one of the most useful features (the most IMHO) but they've never promoted it.

Diigo users speak up if you want Custom Search fixed, kept and promoted. - Rick Shide

Thanks Rick. Yes, I've seen the other posts now and spoken up. This feature is s-o-o-o useful and efficient. Losing this could be a deal breaker. - Fenman .

Tags: Diigo, toolbar, search

by: Fenman .
