According to your Website at http://www.diigo.com/tools, the latest version of the Diigo Toolbar available for download is Version: 4.1.0.18.
When you click on Install Diigo Toolbar, however, it installs Version 4.1.0.14!
When you carry out a Find Updates from the Firefox Add-Ons window, it says that "Version 4.1.0.18 is available."
When you attempt to install the update, however, it generates the following error message:
Firefox could not install the file at
http://www.diigo.com/diigoresources/downloads/diigotoolbar-firefox-new.xpi
because: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption)

Thanks, but I'm not sure I follow. The Tools page says we should be on Version 4.1.0.18, yet it installs Version 4.1.0.14 instead. Firefox Add-Ons also seems to think there should be a Version 4.1.0.18, but the update fails with the error message above.

My question is does Version 4.1.0.18 in fact exist, and if so, why can't I seem to install/upgrade to it? - Russell Cohen

Bookmark's annotations in the group's page don't match with my library

I've shared a bookmark with one of my private groups but most of the annotations available in the group's page cannot be seem from my library (the first 12 annotations in the group's page don't appear in my library). I suppose that even if a bookmark is shared among groups highlights on it should appear in both my library and groups page.

Is that a bug? Did I do something wrong?

It happed again, but from the other side. Now some annotations of 'My Library' cannot be seem from 'My Groups' page. Can someone, please, help me with that?

I've tried the following to fix the first problem (annotations from 'My Groups' don't match with 'My Library':

1) Remove the shared bookmark from the group;

2) In the already bookmarked page which contains all the highlights and stick notes I want to share, right click and choose the context menu option "Bookmark this page to Diigo..."

3) In the window "Edit your bookmark on Diigo" select the option "Share to a Group" and choose the group.

4) Check the option "Share the existent annotations";

5) Click in the button 'save'.

After all this, the bad news: it didn't work. As reported in my first post, exactly the same 12 annotations that appear in the 'My Library' are missing in the 'My groups' page. This is definitely a bug... - Marco Antonio Jonack

Private group visibility ...!??

I don't quit get it:
Why are the private groups listed in the repository but not on the profile page of the owner?
Also why is the creator/owner's name visible in the repository and not the profile?

Also:
I noticed on most profiles I tried to send a messages, I get:
"Sorry, you are not allowed to send message to this user."

How do you manage Family/Friends/Work public bookmarks ? with an Alt ?

I'm in Diigo for a month and have now a lot of bookmarks. I Would like to share nice links with my family , jokes links with my friends and technical links with my colleagues. But I don't want that my colleagues visit my jokes links.

How do you manage Family/Friends/Work public bookmarks ? Do you have Alternative accounts for each "community"?

Chrome Extension

I noticed that you updated the Chrome extension page with a new note about functionality. I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts as you are thinking about changes to the current extension.

I know a lot of people are asking for a toolbar, and that toolbars are not an option in Chrome. Hopefully, you can think about the functionality that you want to bring directly into Chrome and develop a new UI that does not rely on a toolbar. On a related note I am sure it is enticing to wait for some sort of sidebar control to replicate that functionality from IE/FF, but I hope you don't.

IMHO, Chrome is a different type of browser, very minimal and you need to think about your extension in terms of that minimalism. Toolbars ands sidebars just don't fit into what Chrome offers.

With that said:

1. Consider an overlay like the Bit.ly extension has. This would be especially nice if you could find a way to collapse it.

2. Try and bring in the core functionality and skip the rest. While the toolbar does many things, the extension really just needs to provide a way to a) bookmark, b) annotate and c) review markups & meta info.

3. Add something new. Would be awesome to see HTML 5 or Google Gears implemented somehow with the new extension. Something that could set it apart from the other browsers.

4. Integrate with the rest of Chrome. Can you integrate with bookmarks and bookmark sync? Can Diigo be enhanced with the Omnibar? - Sean Brady

I have been thinking about it. I think th emost obvious thing would be the ability to sync bookmarks, and annotations offline. I am not sure there is much value in it though. I have been poking around the Chromium site looking for inspiration. - Sean Brady

Compared with version 3.1b572 of Diigolet, version 3.1b634 (used within and without Diigo meta) is missing the interface to comments. - Graham Perrin

I just realised: the bug is not limited to annotated links that were created in Diigo 4.0 beta.

The bug also bites annotated links that were gained in previous versions of Diigo. So everywhere that people have published such links:

Suggestions

Do not re-introduce the Comment button to this particular flavour of Diigolet. It is not sufficiently intuitive for people who are unfamiliar with Diigo.

Do take a sidebar approach to presentation of comments.

Sidebar at left may be appropriate for Google Sidewiki and the like, see for example
http://www.google.com/sidewiki/entry/seanabrady/id/xpBFw6cVgCtjfIT8WZ8aM76vTT4 and note that this is without installation of software; it works in WebKit-based browsers.

Do not treat Google Sidewiki or any other service as a gold standard. Bear in mind that Sidewiki can not stick notes to highlighted text.

Sidebar at right may be most appropriate for Diigo. It's normal to hang notes over the right hand edge of a sheet of paper.

(Chinese and other LTR readers, feel free to argue with Western RTL assumptions!)

My suggestions: when somebody leaves a group, it stinks that all their bookmarks go with them. Also, it would be nice if you could share bookmarks with a group without having to keep them in your own private collection.

Bookmarks Marked Private Appear Under The Public Heading

When I create a bookmark by highlighting text on a web page, I mark it Private but it still appears under the Public heading in My Library. I then have to go into the Public heading and mark the bookmark Private again. Sometimes for some reason, i can't even change the hotkeys assigned for the toolbar.
Perhaps you should try installing your first toolbar for Firefox! Hey!
You know, you can pretty well manipulate it the way you want it to look.
Just go to "customize".
I've set many parts of the toolbar to the top of my browser.
This way, i keep more viewing room to surf.

While I appreciate that Diigo had an extension out on day one, it leaves a LOT to be desired. I installed the extension, but have it disabled and will stick with the diigolet. Suggestions

1. A join of a group by person P
should be interpreted as an allowance for the owners and moderators of that group to send messages to person P.

In other words, if person P prefers to not receive messages, that preference may be over-ridden in a group joining situation.

2. To the three current options,
Approve | Ban from this group | Ban from this group and flag as spammer
add a fourth:
| Decline

Opting to decline should either
send a standard form of wording, or

I just delete the bookmark in the group without warning

I once banned someone who posted ~100 bookmarks of the wrong subject

What's the correct way to create a tag with multiple words?

I'm using the Diigo toolbar version 4.1.0.14.

When I attempt to save a bookmark with a multiple word tag, the Edit Bookmark tab confirms that tags are "space separated. Use "" for tag with multiple words". I create the tag using that format, e.g. "Whose Land?".

When I look at My Library after creating the Bookmark, however, it contains 2 separate one word tags, i.e. "Whose and Land?", with the first having the opening quotation mark and the second the closing quotation mark!

How do I then go about creating a tag with multiple words? What's the correct format or syntax?

Personally I prefer to avoid space and use ' - ' or ' _ ' as each service renders them differently (%20 or +) and it could create problem when exporting bookmarks with the tags - yuppi c

Must have had something to do with the interrogation mark. I created another multiple word tag called "Test tags" (subsequently deleted) and it worked without a hitch.
Update: Perhaps not. I was also able to create a tag called "Test tags?".
