"Add a Bookmark" dialog bugs caused by FF profile - resolved by creating new profile - 46 views

Ferdinand, I just upgraded to the 4.1.0.3 that you are using and I am not seeing either issue. I can see tag suggestions as I type and add to a list from the dialog. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the bookmarklet or clearing your cache? I know I have seen some odd things with the toolbar in the past. -
I tried it again on another machine and it still seems to be fine. Is it a particular website you are working with, or does it happen on all sites? Anyone from Diigo care to chime in?

Two sidebars seems dreadful to me, even on my big monitors (not to mention my netbook). IMHO, two would be overkill as the idea should be to perform the heavy lifting tasks in the main Diigo UI. A toolbar should be a fast tool for finding out what information is available about a page, and to allow for capture of the page into Diigo.
I am moving more to favor an enhanced bookmarklet instead of a toolbar/add in solution. At the very most an addin that simply adds a button to the browser UI to call the bookmarklet functionality. I think that HTML 5 and javascript have come far enough to allow most of what needs to be done to be done with a very lightweight solution. With the exception of IE all modern browsers should be able to take advantage of a strong bookmarklet.
That said here is what I would like to see added to a bookmarklet.
- Change the UI to a sidebar similar to Bit.ly's
- Expose Meta information from Diigo (and other social networks)
- Provide for in sidebar capture of the page (don't open another dialog, just change the sidebar to allow for capture)
- Add the collect flash function to the bookmarklet
- Add the snapshot function to the bookmarklet
While having list and group functionality (beyond simply adding a bookmark to) in the sidebar would be nice, I would prefer to see it dropped in favor of keeping the UI clean and fast. Perhaps simple provide links to those pages as needed. -
I think a sidebar that obscures content is ok, as long as it retains the current hide feature that the Diigolet does today.
No Annotations/Highlights - 11 views

Hi Andrea. I am curious which browser you are using to store and browse your bookmarks and if you are using the Diigo toolbar or the Diigolet? You need to be running the Diigo software in order to see annotations on the page.
As far as other people seeing your highlights, they need to be running the Diigo software in order to see your highlights. Alternatively, you can send people what is known as an annotated link. You can get the annotated link for an item by clicking the share option on your My Library page.

I like the new groups, a river of information is more preferable to me. So it's not a total loss, again to me. I was a long time user of Ma.gnolia, and worked very closely with Larry and Todd on the site. It was a sad day when the problems occurred, but I didn't lose a single bookmark. I made a backup of my bookmarks regularly. I do the same thing on Diigo. IMHO, the only place on the web that you should assume that a) the backups will always work, and b) the design, structure and functionality will never change is on your own hosted site. While I have been disappointed with some of the decisions that the Diigo team made with 4.0, and would have preferred that they go a different route in some cases, I feel that overall the site is far more functional to provide a place for me to store bookmarks, annotate them, and share that stored and annotated data back out.

Diigolet vs. Bitly Sidebar - 16 views

I am a Google Chrome user, and rely quite heavily on bookmarklets. The Diigolet is a passable solution for accessing Diigo, but it is certainly far from perfect. I have been using the Bookmarklet created by the URL shortening service Bit.ly recently and I have to say that is a very slick, fast, and useful bookmarklet. This is really not a comparison, more of a request to suggest that the Diigo team take a look at what Bit.ly is doing with their sidebar bookmarklet. http://bit.ly/NNbNz
I might also add that having Diigo offer a nice bit of analytics with their own URL shortening service would be awesome as I would not have to both shorten on Bit.ly and save on Diigo.
Diigo Feature Request: (Post Which New Features u want to see in Diigo) - 45 views

New features are great and all, but many of the issues in the forum are problems with existing features.

Facebook Application, is diigo still supported? - 127 views

I would say that there is no application as well. Searching for Diigo on Facebook returns no results in the Application list. Here is a quick video showing search results.

Also, when you follow the link to facebook from Diigo you end up on the fan page, but when you try to get to the application you just see a list of links, no option to add the application. I don;t seem to be able to add my marks to my wall etc.

How is Diigo backed up? - 118 views

In my opinion the most important thing any Diigo user needs to know is that there is an export function in Diigo. Diigo actually offers 5 different formats that you can use to make backups which can be found at http://www.diigo.com/tools/export/.
I suggest that every Diigo user plans to export a copy of their data at least once a month, maybe weekly if you save a lot of pages. I believe one of Grahams links points to export discussions.
Everyone should find a way to backup the data to your own computer for all of the web services you rely on.

BUG: SEARCH RESULTS - Private Bookmarks Dropped From Search Results - 75 views
-
Hmm. I did import a couple of Notebooks into private lists, and I an not seeing any issues with searching for bookmarks in those lists. I am also not having any issues searching for bookmarks that I have that are private, not in lists. Have you tried doing some really simple searches for the items that are private? Just looking for a single word in the title of one of the private bookmarks? I have seen instances where Diigo does not return an expected set of bookmarks. In general, I find Diigo best when searching using very simple criteria. - ...1 more comments...

I have had some very odd things happen with my accounts in the past. In fact this is the only website on the Internet I use this user ID on because the account with my normal user ID has gotten so jacked up it is not usable. In the other account the problem was that I deleted 100's of bookmarks, but the tags associated with those bookmarks did not delete.
I will say that searching can be somewhat inconsistent. The result counts have not always been accurate, reporting that it was displaying 1 - 16 of 16 bookmarks when there were only 3 displayed. Last time I checked this there really were only three, it was just the count that was off.
Awaiting a response. -
I certainly don't think silence should be taken as anything bad, it is my opinion that official responses are slow in coming in the forums and through support in general. It would be nice if Diigo had someone in the forums responding daily and acting as a liaison back to the developers. No sense in having the developers up here in the front when they should be in the back developing.

I agree that the ability to quickly scan the list of feeds in GR and add the items you want to read to the read it later list is very powerful. I believe that is the main feature that makes RIL so much nicer than other reading list applications.
However, as long as the Read It later functionality in Diigo remains a part of the bookmark list it is not really a feature that appeals to me.
Blue Gene wrote:
> ReadItLater has firefox addon that allows users to bookmark feed items within Google reader (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7661). Why not add this feature to the Diigo firefox plugin? This will be a great add-on feature -
As I thought more about this I realized that this would be a nice feature for just adding information to Diigo from GR. Not in a reading list sort of way, but in a I just read this on GR and I want to add it to Diigo.
The bookmarklets for Laterloop and Mento both detect that you are viewing GR and automatically bookmark the article you are currently viewing. Consider this an official feature request. The Diigolet and Toolbar should detect when you are in GR and allow you to bookmark the article you are reading without having to navigate to the home page. (Obviously this causes issues for the Highlight feature).
Advanced search removed? - 168 views

Peter Pan: I am also not seeing the Advanced Search feature, but it does appear that you can still perform the searches by putting the identifiers directly in the search. For example, to find the word Consensus in your highlights you would type h:consensus into the search box. You can use a c: to search in your comments.

Your welcome. I actually like this more, because it was kind of a PIA to get to the advanced search dialog anyway. I just got used to using the key shortcuts. -
I have used h: to search highlights and c: to search comments recently. Both worked as I would expect.
Extract Annotations with New Toolbar - 46 views
-
I upgrades to the 6.13 release and was playing around with the new features. In particular I was looking at the extract annotations option that is part of the new Send button.
Using http://www.diigo.com/annotated/7b6a0267fd0f8b1c10dd87d06b78805b as a baseline for discussion.
I added a page comment to that article. When I use the new Extract Annotations option is shows my Page Comment inline with the rest of the Highlights. There is no indication that the comment is something that I added. I also commented on a highlight, and I do see the indication there that it is my comment.
This is different than how extracting annotations works from the My Bookmarks screen. -
Looks correct to me.
Diigo Mobile Request - 51 views
-
I am using Diigo on my new Blackberry Storm. When I browse to http://m.diigo.com I am redirected to the main page. This maybe because Diigo thinks I am using a full browser, not sure. I know that if I try to go to the mobile URL on my desktop it redirects me back to the full dashboard.
Anyway, my question is, can the redirect/browser check be removed from the m.diigo.com link? Since I obviously want a mobile view when I go to that URL there does not seem to be any reason to redirect.
P.S. I suppose it is also possible that the m.diigo.com URL is just not working right now. IN that case this a bug report and not a feature request. :) -
I played around a little more and I see that if I go to the My Bookmarks option I do get the mobile interface. It is still kind of confusing, but it does work.
IMHO, Chrome is a different type of browser, very minimal and you need to think about your extension in terms of that minimalism. Toolbars ands sidebars just don't fit into what Chrome offers.
With that said:
1. Consider an overlay like the Bit.ly extension has. This would be especially nice if you could find a way to collapse it.
2. Try and bring in the core functionality and skip the rest. While the toolbar does many things, the extension really just needs to provide a way to a) bookmark, b) annotate and c) review markups & meta info.
3. Add something new. Would be awesome to see HTML 5 or Google Gears implemented somehow with the new extension. Something that could set it apart from the other browsers.
4. Integrate with the rest of Chrome. Can you integrate with bookmarks and bookmark sync? Can Diigo be enhanced with the Omnibar?
