Highlighting problem in Chrome 4 | Diigo Groups - 0 views

  • Highlighting problem
    • Graham Perrin

Highlight drawn using Diigolet 4.0b14 in Chromium 4.0.229.0 (30489) on Mac OS X 10.6.x.

As I drew the highlight, the button on the toolbar of Diigolet remained normal.

So: the bug (maybe in the V8 JavaScript engine used by Chromium and by Google Chrome) (maybe not in the JavaScript of Diigolet) does not occur in all circumstances.

Post to Diigo: example JavaScript modified to include the date of addition - 6 views

  • Graham Perrin

The JavaScript in the paste, based on the standard
Post to Diigo, includes the following tags:

    2009
    2009-10
    2009-10-25
    unread

Tagging with year, month and date at time of bookmarking is a workaround to a recent issue
Library out of order! - I can't find things!

For the workaround to be effective, you'll need to customise your Post to Diigo once a day.

TeachPaperless: The Five Minute Twitter Verb Crunch Drill - 1 views

  • October 12, 2009
  • a five minute verb crunch drill I've been using with my Latin I, II, and III students
  • ...32 more annotations...
  • payoff has been great
  • My students practically beg to do the exercise
  • understanding of verb parsing go way up
  • much of the fear has been taking out of sight-reading
  • 1. Students open a passage
  • open a Tweet feed
    • Graham Perrin

      What's a Tweet feed?

      Is it specific to Twitterfall?
  • 2. Next, I assign each student five lines
  • They are responsible for highlighting each verb
  • using Diigo
  • 3. Once the highlighting is complete, the students parse each verb
  • parsed verbs are Tweeted
  • hashtag
  • 4. As the students are parsing
  • live Twitterfall of their hashtag
  • 5. When time is up
  • check the verbs as a class
  • 6. As we work, we reTweet correct verb parsings
  • If we find mistakes
  • fix them and Tweet the corrected versions
  • 7. Finally, the students cut-and-paste
  • Google Docs
  • all takes about five minutes
  • integrated collaborative real-time
  • semi-daily
  • feels natural
  • each student has a copy of the original annotations in Diigo
  • copy of the completed and corrected Tweets in their notebooks

This bug seems to recur in the following situation:

    1. http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fdiscussions.apple.com%2Fmessageview.jspa%3FmessageID%3D10228266?tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin

    2. in the lower part of Meta, scroll down to reveal the comment field

    3. paste four lines

       — I pasted the four that are also pasted to http://pastebin.ca/1635680

    4. Add Comment

    Symptoms

    * in the topmost bar of Diigo Meta:

      Processing

    * after which I find error 400 in response to http://www.diigo.com/user/grahamperrin?dm=advanced and some other Diigo URLs

Symptoms recurred after the following sequence:

    1. http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maclife.com%2Farticle%2Ffeature%2Fterminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know?f=m&tab=people&uname=grahamperrin

      — probably loaded OK and I probably did not attempt to reveal the preview pane

    2. in the toolbar of Safari, manually edit the URL to http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maclife.com%2Farticle%2Ffeature%2Fterminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know?f=m&tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin

    3. key return

    4. AFAIR when I revealed the preview pane, the highlights did not appear

    5. in the uppermost bar of Diigo Meta, I command-clicked either the (blue?) title of the bookmarked page, or the (green?) URL of the bookmarked page

    6. http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/terminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know opened in a new tab to the side

    7. command-3 for accelerated loading of Diigolet 4.0b14

    8. clicked the Comment button to reveal the palette

    9. clicked the first highlight

    10. Diigolet found and scrolled to that highlight

    11. in the earlier tab with http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maclife.com%2Farticle%2Ffeature%2Fterminal_tips_every_mac_usershould_know?f=m&tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin:
    command-r to reload, error 400.

    Postscript

Edited this comment heavily to include greater detail.

No thanks to Twitter. No thanks to bit.ly

In a Tweet, I used the TinyURL of a Diigo Meta page.

Twitter ignored my paste, over-wrote it with a bit.ly URL that warns users against proceeding.

No thanks for breaking my Tweet, kthxBYE Twitter and I must think twice before using it for sharing URLs.

(Identi.ca running StatusNet worked first time. Oh hai Identi.ca kisses.)

I'm surprised that Twitter can't present a conversation in a meaningful way.

  • Recently, I’ve also discovered a great site called Diigo.com
  • so accustomed now to using the highlighter in Preview and Diigo
  • I want that same feature in Mail
    • Graham Perrin

As Mail.app uses WebKit, so something like this may be possible.

However: the simple act of 'filing' a message — moving it from one mailbox to another — could be enough to break the reference point upon which a highlight might rely.

I wonder how Qu-s handles references to messages that move.
