Bookmarks Marked Private Appear Under The Public Heading - 170 views

private public bookmark help
  • Anayly Ledoyen

When I create a bookmark by highlighting text on a web page, I mark it Private but it still appears under the Public heading in My Library. I then have to go into the Public heading and mark the bookmark Private again. How can I make the bookmark retain the original Private mark I gave it and not have it appear under the Public heading?

Daniel, thank you for your suggestion, "Perhaps you should try installing your first toolbar for Firefox!", but I am just not that brave. I am not a tech at all; if anything were to go wrong with my computer, I would have to pay someone to fix it, therefore it is important that I keep everything about it as simple as possible.

Thank you for your response, which caused me to take a closer look at the issue, and understand that Diigo is not designed to function the way I expected it to.

My expectation was that once I marked a sticky Private, it would make BOTH the sticky and the bookmark it automatically created Private, as in my usage the sticky and the bookmark are one and the same, for both are always made Private. After I read your comment it occurred to me that Diigo may treat the sticky and the bookmark as separate entities, with individual settings for each. I had always just highlighted text and created a sticky, which automatically created a bookmark, but it did not create the settings for the bookmark such as Private or Public, tag, and list. Once I tested the above theory I found out that I had to bookmark a webpage and in that process I could mark it Private, tag it, and sort it to a list. Separately I could create a sticky attached to the webpage that I could mark Private. It is now clear to me that creating a Private bookmark and a Private sticky are two separate processes.

    Thanks, again, for your comment.

In My Library, when I am organizing the bookmarks, I need to be able to see in each bookmark entry, which of the Lists I previously created I placed it in, in order to decide whether to keep it on the current list or move it to another one.

Unable to Save Sticky Notes - 33 views

bug resolved

On 11-21-08, after I created a Sticky Note and clicked on Submit, I got a message where my user name is located on the Diigolet toolbar stating "Failed." I tried to create/save the Sticky Note repeatedly and sometimes the message "Transferring data from toolbar3.diigo.com..." appeared on the bottom status bar. However, the result was always the same: the Sticky Note was not saved. This happened on every web page, regardless of source.

Do you have a solution to this problem?

Unable To Delete Existing Sticky Notes - 124 views

sticky note delete help close window resolved spam (electronic)

I am not able to delete existing Sticky Notes since a delete, or any other option, does not show in the pop-up window after the Sticky Note is created. This is extremely inconvenient and makes Diigo unusable to me.

I am able to delete a Highlight after it has been created because delete and other options show in the pop-up window.

I upgraded to Firefox 3 since I last used Diigo. Is this problem being caused by Firefox 3? Or have you eliminated the option of deleting a Sticky Note after it has been created?

    Thank you.

The sticky notes I am referring to are the ones that are called "In-Situ Sticky Notes" in the Diigo Help section. There is no "trash can" in the upper right corner of the sticky note, as you indicated there is, the only options there are:

    Actions . . . . . . . . . . . . . X (= Close)
    Add Sticky Note
    Help

Note that the above refers to an existing sticky note, one that I want to Edit or Delete, not one that I want to create.

Although in the Help section for the In-Situ Sticky Notes it states that "User can delete (but not edit) his own sticky notes.", both options, Edit and Delete, were available to me within the pop-up window since I began using Diigo months ago. Now they are not, why were they removed? These are essential features for my usage, without them Diigo is useless to me.

Unable To See Annotated (higlights and sticky notes) Web Page - 150 views

Diigolet help bug suggestion
  • Anayly Ledoyen

It was my understanding that I would be able to see any annotated (highlights and sticky notes) web page I create after I finished it.

In reality all that I can see is the original web page BEFORE I made the annotations.

If I understand it correctly, a copy of every annotated web page I create is kept in your servers. Why can I not access my own annotated web pages?

Is this the way Diigo works, or is there a setting / process in the system I am missing, or is this a bug in the program?

I am using Firefox V. 2.0.0.6 and Diigolet.

    Thanks.

My original post states: "I am using Firefox V 2.0.0.6 and Diigolet."

In your response you asked: "Are you use browser plugin (install) or use a bookmark diigolet?"

Is there a difference between the terms "Diigolet" and "bookmark Diigolet"? It seems to me that they are the same.

Please take the time to read a post carefully before you respond to it.

If possible, please forward my question for Joel to answer.

    Thanks.

In My Bookmarks, when I click on the link with the title of the webpage, a new tab opens to the original webpage WITHOUT any of the highlights and sticky notes I made to it. On the My Bookmarks page, all I see are the highlights and the sticky notes that I made, I do NOT see the original webpage.

Where did the webpage with the highlights and sticky notes I made go? Even 5 minutes after I made the highlights and sticky notes, I cannot find the webpage with them on it. This does not make sense.

What do you mean by your statement: "if the original page has been changed, your highlights and sticky notes may not appear on the original page." Who would change the page? Why would the page be changed 5 minutes after I made the highlights and sticky notes on it? I do not understand.

This is what I need to know: can Diigo let me ALWAYS see the ORIGINAL WEBPAGE with ALL of the highlights and sticky notes I made on it? (Please be very clear and specific in answering this question.)

Is there a solution to this problem or is Diigo not set up to function the way I need for it to work? (Please be very clear and specific in answering this question.)

    Thank you.

I finally figured out on my own how to make Diigolet work for me but it took many weeks.

A new problem has arisen. I use AOL, Yahoo!, Hotmail and Google web mails and Diigolet does not work when I try to highlight and create sticky notes in emails I receive through those services.

Is there a solution to this problem?

    Thank you.

I sent you the following question on October 6, 2007 and I have not received a response.

I use AOL, Yahoo!, Hotmail and Google web mails and Diigolet does not work when I try to highlight and create sticky notes in emails I receive through those services. Is there a solution to this problem?

    Thank you.

For two months (October and November, 2007) I was able to see the original webpages with all of my highlights and sticky notes.

Today (11-30-07) I cannot see any highlights and sticky notes on any original webpages.

Additionally, I am not able to create new sticky notes on any webpage.

Are these bugs or is this the way it will be permanently?

    Thank you.

When I - Forward - an annotated (highlights and sticky notes) page to an individual, can the recipient highlight and place sticky notes on the page without my having to make the person a - Friend - or a member of a - Group - first? (All of my highlights and sticky notes are set to Private and I want to retain this setting.)

    Thanks.
