Lately, last day or so, I've not been able to use my custom search engines. Usually i right click over a selected piece of text, and they'll be there in my context menu. But lately the search engines showing up there are the default set, and not the custom search engines i have setup myself.
I'm using the latest FireFox running on Windows 7 32-bit.
It's strange as i've been using Diigo for quite a while now and never come across the behaviour before. Hopefully someone can help me out here and anyone else that might be experiencing the same issue.
Maggie Tsao says that this feature may be dropped altogether. Speak up and demand that Custom Search be fixed and promoted, it's been hidden for far to long, if more people were aware how incredibly useful it is there'd be many more using it.
Hopefully they won't drop it. It's useful enough to be a service on it's own. The problem is (like many diigo features) a lot of people don't even know it's there.
Actually, it's disappeared from everywhere suddenly? Did that happen today? Don't take it away!
My custom search completely disappeared after Diigo updated the toolbar. I think it was the new version of the toolbar. I looked up versions, and it offered a classic version of the toolbar, before this present version, that supposedly gives you back your custom search options.
Add in my vote =) I don't use the toolbar anymore but when I did, I used custom search a lot - So much that I now have FastYub! extension which does approximately the same thing. So I think Diigo should keep it : If I come back to using the Diigo toolbar I won't need any other extensions.
We will keep a classic version with multiple type support http://www.diigo.com/tools?version=firefox_classic . BTW, when we have time, we will make a better stand alone multiple type search extension.
i guess it maybe makes sense to separate it out, so the focus of diigo is more clear, and developers can focus on that. But isn't maintaining TWO versions going to be even more tricky?
But i guess if i'm not going to use the search functionality then i can hide the toolbar entirely and just use the menu...
We have a vision for multiple type search like this: Create a thorough meta search experience. 1) Create a meta search web site where users can customize search engine, conduct search, switch in different search engines easily.
2) Create an stand alone extension to support the site.
We even had a half cooked version. However, we need to focus on diigo now. Hopefully, we will release a new version with more powerful features before the new year.
I think we will all be happy to wait as long as we havent lost our custom search! It is a fabulous vision, to have a whole other annotated web to search!

I will look this issue.

I think the link for it is:
http://www.diigo.com/tools?version=firefox_classic
I wonder how long we will get to keep it. *sniff* I doubt they will have both versions of the tool bars available. does anyone know for sure?
I wonder what their reasoning is, as it can't really require a lot of maintenance, and hasn't needed any updating.

that sounds yummy. dont tease. can you tell us what your vision is?

I'll check out fastyub and see how it goes...
