Eiffel Tower Pictures History, Facts & Location - Paris, France - 0 views

  • The Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous icons in the world and is located on the banks of the Seine River in Paris, France. The Eiffel Tower is made out of iron and is built on Champ de Mars. The tower got its name from the engineer who built it. It is the tallest building in the entire Paris. It is one of the few places in the world that is visited by more than 200,000,000 tourists since it construction in 1989 and it generates maximum revenue as compared to any other monument in the world. The tower was constructed in just three years. The purpose of the tower was to do radio broadcasting. The tower is 1,063 feet high, with a 79 feet antenna and weighs around 7,900 tons. During the time the Eifel Tower was made, many people were surprised and shocked to see its daring and intrepid shape. The engineers who were making an effort to create it were accused big time of the experiment they were trying to do. The engineers however, were sure and confident of what they had in mind; they could also understand the forces of the wind and knew that the structure would support the strong slashes of the wind. Finally, their persistence pays off in the year 1989 when the towers construction work got completed and stood as one of the largest towers in the entire Paris. The tower has two restaurants and both are located on the first floor. There is an inbuilt lift that can take you to the top floor so you can witness the marvelous view of Paris, France.

  • Paris & Ile-de-FranceParisParis is one of the world’s great cities: with a practically endless amount of things to do, it rewards repeated and extended visits. Despite the massive size of the city, Paris is also an easily navigable destination as the city center itself is relatively compact and all areas of Paris are connected by a highly efficient public transport system, with the famous Paris Metro, an attraction in itself. Paris boasts more than 80 museums and around 200 art galleries. La Carte is a pass providing free admission to about 60 national and municipal museums in the Paris area.

"1. La Tour Eiffel (The Eiffel Tower) was built by engineer Gustave Eiffel in 1889, in celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the French Revolution (1789). Initially considered an eyesore, today it is the landmark of Paris. At 984 feet (300 m) high, the tower offers a spectacular panoramic view of the entire city from all directions. The view at sunset is especially breathtaking, and well worth the long line to the top. 2. Notre Dame de Paris (Notre Dame Cathedral) is the first cathedral to be built, marking Paris as the capital of France. Its construction began in 1163, but took almost two centuries to complete. The cathedral is designed based on Gothic architecture, with several large rose windows, colorful stained glasses, pointed arches and spires, and innovative sculptures, such as gargoyles. The cathedral saw many historical moments, including the crowning of Henry VI of England in 1430. 3. La Musée du Louvre (The Louvre Museum), a fortress in the Middle Ages, is now home to Leonardo Da Vinci's world-renowned painting, the Mona Lisa, and an impressive collection of art and antiquities from the world over. Six million people visit the Louvre Museum in Paris every year to admire its exhibits and collections. It would take months to complete a tour of everything in the museum. Therefore, it is recommended to choose what to see first and leave the rest for another visit. 4. Le Jardin des Tuileries (Tuileries Garden) is a beautiful park in the heart of Paris. This 61.8-acre (25-hectare) park was initially built for Catherine de Médicis in 1559. The park is an amazing place to unwind from a long day of sightseeing in Paris. There are two fascinating museums to visit within the park itself - Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume and La Musée de L'Orangérie. One may also enjoy a cup of coffee by the many fountains and sculptures in the park. 5. L'Avenue des Champs-Élysées (The Champs-Élysées Avenue), featuring luxurious boutiques and awe-inspiring automo
