Technology makes it possible to with a couple of clicks able to read about poverty, TB, or AIDS which is faster access to print resources than we have ever had. It also allows us to make it more powerful through images or video. It even allows us to find great organizations that our kids can help support like XDRTB.org.
More importantly we need our kids to learn how to use the tools around them to act as change agents to make their world a better place.

Dubbed "the Everest of Yacht Racing", the Vendee Globe is the ultimate in single-handed endurance: around the world, single-handed, non-stop with no assistance from shore.
The Vendee Globe spans 25,000 miles, ~100 days, France to France, leaving Antarctica to starboard, starting in November 2008.
Rich Wilson is the ONLY American registered for the 2008 Vendee Globe.
The first race was held in 1989-90, and has been run every four years since the 1992-93 event.
Two sailors have been lost at sea since the race began in 1989, and others have been dramatically rescued.

Tips on effectively integrating and using clickers in the classroom
Best practices are lessons learned throughout our first year using clickers. The following information was created by input from faculty, faculty development, and support.
Below are links to a series of articles that pertain to clickers in the classroom. Some articles are tips for faculty who are getting started using clickers. Other articles detail instructors' experience in using and integrating clickers in their classrooms. We have included articles regarding assessing student learning in large classes to help one with the redesign of a course that will use clickers. Further, there is a listing of popular media articles and peer reviewed journal articles.
The chance to "make a difference" in young people's lives is what makes teaching a calling. But working in a community of learners that prizes real intellectual development and creativity, and having a level of control over what you can do on a daily basis, is what sustains that calling.
People do NOT remember 10% of what they read, 20% of what they see, 30% of what they hear, etc. That information, and similar pronouncements are fraudulent. Moreover, general statements on the effectiveness of learning methods are not credible---learning results depend on too many variables to enable such precision. Unfortunately, this bogus information has been floating around our field for decades, crafted by many different authors and presented in many different configurations, including bastardizations of Dale's Cone. It has taken ten years of advocacy by colleagues throughout Massachusetts to achieve this reform package. I am proud of the role MASCD has played in shaping the agenda. Working together with hundreds of educators, business leaders, parents and politicians, we have come to a new day for children. The power to transform is with us; let us use it wisely.
