It's only fitting that Mother Earth get a day to herself. The rest of the year, we go on tilling, mining, logging, burning, burying trash, and otherwise taking advantage of Mother.
Even though we're talking about global warming, or the increase of energy in the earth's atmosphere due largely to increased greenhouse gasses, the oceans are also becoming more acidic because of the same factors. See the section below called "Oceans turning sour."
