You are here: Diigo Home > Groups > Diigo Community > Forum > Handling dynamic URLs - Bookmark editing *is* needed
I've seen the past discussion on bookmark editing. I believe that it is critically needed. Many sites today use dynamic URL that encode how a user got to a page, where to return to, and even session IDs. I've formed a Diigo community around just one site (LinkedIn). The likelihhood is close to 0 that the URL that I have when I'm looking at someone's LinkedIn profile is exactly the same as the URL of someone else seeing that same profile page. Diigo is worthless in this case.
For now, I just have to try to educate people to use a standard URL format without the crap, which is going to be difficult. It's an extra two steps for someone to be at a profile, locate the user ID, copy the ID, paste the standard format, and then paste the ID in the format. .... PLUS anyone viewing such pages won't know there there is a Diigo comment unless they similarly edit the browser URL for the standard format.
Yikes! .... Are there better ways to handle this???
At a minimum users need to be able to edit the bookmark to the standard URL format so others can see it. Even better would be if the group manager (me) could edit bookmarks that are not in the right format.

I completely agree. This is a much needed feature. Could this possibly be one of the new features in the upcoming Diigo V3?

Hi Marc and FD,
Thanks for your input. These are good points but non-trivial to resolve ...
Marc, if you have a specific application in mind, please drop me an email at info at diigo dot com, and send me some sample URL pages and more details. Maybe we have some recommendation for you.
